  1. Maxillomandibular relation

  2. Mandibular movements is influenced by (TMJ, muscles and ligaments) Tempromandibular joint (TMJ) is a joint of articulation of the condylar process of the mandible with the mandibular fossa (glenoid fossa) of the temporal bone. It is a complex joint because it covered with dense fibrous connectivetissue (articular disk or capsule) instead of hyaline cartilage and it is a synovial joint which secretes a synovial fluid

  3. Facial musclescontrol the movement of the mandible (closing, opening gliding muscles). 1. Masseter muscle: 2. Temporalis muscle 3. Medial pterygoid musle: 4. Lateral pterygoid muscle:

  4. Ligaments 1. Temporomandibular ligaments 2. Sphenomandibular ligaments 3. Stylomandibular ligaments Mandibular movements: 1. Basic movements: A) Rotational movement (hinge):   B) Translatory (gliding or sliding): 2. Functional movements:

  5. Mandibular axis: 1. Hinge axis: 2. Capital axis: 3. Vertical axis: Maxillomandibular relation Centric jaw relation: Centric occlusion (maximum intercuspation):   Eccentric jaw relation:   Vertical jaw relation:   Physiologic rest position:   Vertical dimension of physiologic rest position (V.D.R):   Vertical dimension of occlusion (V.D.O):
