  1. Bringing Sexy Back

  2. Monogamy is the state of having only one sexual partner at any one time. The word monogamy comes from the Greek word monos "μονός", which means one or alone, and the Greek word gamos "γάμος", which means marriage or union. In many cases, the word "monogamy" is used to specifically refer to marital monogamy. • Social monogamy refers to two persons/creatures who live together, have sex with one another, and cooperate in acquiring basic resources such as food, clothes, and money. • Sexual monogamy refers to two persons/creatures who remain sexually exclusive with one another and have no outside sex partners. • Genetic monogamy refers to two partners that only have offspring with one another. • Marital monogamy refers to marriages of only two people.

  4. Polyamory • Polyamory (from Greek πολυ [poly, meaning many or several] and Latin amor [love]) is the practice, desire, or acceptance of having more than one intimate sexual relationship at a time with the consent of everyone involved. • Polyamory, often abbreviated to poly, is sometimes described as consensual, ethical, or responsible non-monogamy. The word is occasionally used more broadly to refer to any sexual or romantic relationships that are not sexually exclusive, though there is disagreement on how broadly it applies; an emphasis on ethics, honesty, and transparency all around is widely regarded as the crucial defining characteristic.

  5. Polyamory in Same-Sex relationships • Polyamory is "a well-accepted part of gay subculture", although "often viewed by some therapists as problematic”; somewhere between 30% and 67% of men in male couples report being in a sexually non-monogamous relationship. According to Coleman & Rosser (1996), "although a majority of male couples are not sexually exclusive, they are in fact emotionally monogamous.” • Shernoff states that: “ One of the biggest differences between male couples and mixed sex couples is that many, but by no means all within the gay community have an easier acceptance of sexual non exclusivity than does heterosexual society in general [....] Research confirms that non-monogamy in and of itself does not create a problem for male couples when it has been openly negotiated.”

  6. The Manifesto • The right to choose to have, or not have sex, in an informed and sex positive way is a fundamental human right. • All gay men should have high quality, non-judgmental educational information on diverse relationship structures and different sexual desires alongside information on sexually transmitted diseases and risk reduction interventions. • Love, desire, lust and intimacy of any form are of equal value within our community provided they involve informed consent and respect. • Monogamous and non-monogamous relationships both have value within our community and neither has precedence.

  7. Manifesto continued • As a community we will step up to defend the right to be monogamous and the right not to be monogamous and not sacrifice either to assimilate or acquiesce. • Sex, love, lust, desire and intimacy can be simultaneous or separate and as gay men we will own these emotions and sensations and take responsibility for our choices relating to them. • Respect is fundamental to healthy sexual liberation, and we will build spaces and languages with value and honour sexual choices in all their forms.
