  1. Miss Power’s ‘Ouch’ story

  2. “No!” I groaned as the phone started to ring. A quick scan of the room confirmed that I had left the phone in the kitchen. I know you are probably think I should just jump up, run and answer phone only it isn’t that easy. Oh, no! Nothing is that easy after Saturday. Let me explain … On Saturday I wandered outside to check the weather before going into the city to meet a friend for lunch. It looked pretty nice: sunny and warm and when I went out it was indeed a lovely day. As I looked up at the bright, baby-blue sky I noticed some grass growing at the edge of my roof. Grass on top of my roof? My gutters – the beginning of all this!

  3. I stepped up onto the retaining wall and examined the roof more closely. Looks like I’m going to have to clean my gutters – probably should have done that before I started growing a small garden up there! “Well not today” I smiled to myself, thinking about my future trip into the city. I stepped down from the wall and suddenly found myself falling to the ground as my ankle twisted and buckled underneath me with a small cracking sound. I sat leaning against the wooden wall in surprise. Well that was unexpected! A quick look at my foot showed a small graze below the ankle. It felt a little stiff but otherwise looked and felt fine. I hobbled inside hoping that I could still meet my friend in the city in a couple of hours. 75cm high retaining wall.

  4. STAY TUNED FOR PART 2 TOMORROW MORNING ! During ‘Just Write’ you might like to write a recount about your own ‘ouch’ experience. Don’t forget to catch everyone’s attention with a sizzling start. Then include lots of details about what happened, what you could see, hear and how you felt. Make sure the reader can picture what happened in their head without having been there.
