  2. A local ice cream store kept track of how many cones it sold during a five day period last week and the data is shown in the chart above. This is the range of the ice cream cones sold.

  3. What is 16 ice cream cones? Explanation: Range is the difference between the highest number and lowest number in a set of data. The highest number of the data is 49 and the lowest number is 33, so the range is 16.

  4. A local ice cream store kept track of how many cones it sold during a five day period last week and the data is shown in the chart above. This is the median number of ice cream cones sold.

  5. What is 41 ice cream cones? Explanation: Median is the number found in the middle of a set of data after the numbers have been put in order. The data in order is 33, 39, 41, 43 and 49.

  6. The mode of five different test scores is 89. Four of the scores are 89, 93, 78, and 85. This is the fifth score.

  7. What is 89? Explanation: Mode means the number found most often in a set of data. In order for the mode to be 89, there has to be another score of 89 in the list.

  8. Bill’s median of 7 different scores is 87. Six of the scores are 99, 81, 90, 78, 93, and 82. This is the seventh score.

  9. What is 87? Explanation: Median means the number found in the middle of a set of data after the numbers have been arranged in order. The 6 given numbers in order are 78, 81, 82, 90, 93, and 99. Since the median of all seven scores is 87, 87 must be the missing score.

  10. Sally’s mean of 5 different scores is 4. Four of the scores are 3, 8, 2, and 1. This is the fifth score.

  11. What is 6? Explanation: The mean is the average of the set of numbers. If the mean of the 5 test scores is 4, that must mean the test scores added together must be 20. (20 ÷ 5 = 4). The first four test scores add up to 14, so the fifth test score must be 6.

  12. This is the answer to the following expression 10 – 4 x 2

  13. What is 2? Explanation: According to the order of operation rules, multiplication has to be done before subtraction.

  14. This is the answer to the following expression 20 – 7 + 3 x 2

  15. What is 19? Explanation: According to the order of operation rules, multiplication is done before addition and subtraction. After the multiplication is done in the problem, all that is left is addition and subtraction, so you have to solve the problem in order from left to right.

  16. This is the value of ‘n’ in the following expression: 12 – (4x2) + 3 = n

  17. What is 7?

  18. This is the value of ‘n’ in the following: 2 + 3 x n = 11

  19. What is 3?

  20. This is the value of ‘n’ in the following: 52 – 23 = n

  21. What is 17? Explanation: Remember that 52 means 5 x 5 and that 23 means 2 x 2 x2

  22. Mary ran a race in 15.18 seconds. This is her time rounded to the nearest tenth of a second.

  23. What is the 15.2 seconds?

  24. The number 4/5 is equal to this percent.

  25. What is 80%?

  26. Jodi got 15 out of 20 points on a test. This is her percentage grade.

  27. What is 75%? Explanation: One way to solve this is to put the fraction 15/20 in lowest terms. In lowest terms, 15/20 is equal to ¾ which is 75%

  28. This is the largest of the following numbers: 5/8 65% 2/3 0.6

  29. What is 2/3?

  30. This is the fraction you would use to simplify 12/18 to lowest terms so it could be done in one step.

  31. What is 6/6?

  32. Abby, Barbara, and Chris all got their math test back. Abby missed 12% of the questions, Barbara got 80% of the questions right. Chris missed ¼ of the questions. This is the person who got the best grade.

  33. Who is Abby? (She got 88%)

  34. This number is 7 tenths more than 5.54.

  35. What is 6.24?

  36. This is the perimeter of the figure below: 5.3 cm 3 cm.

  37. What is 16.6 cm?

  38. This is the mixed number equivalent for 12.375 (express the fraction in lowest terms)

  39. What is 12 3/8?

  40. Kelly went to the store and bought 5.1 pounds of ham. She also bought 3 ¾ pounds of turkey. This is the approximate number of pounds of meat she bought.

  41. What is 9 pounds of meat?

  42. Bill likes to run every day. He always follows the same route when he runs, which is exactly 5.1 miles. This is about how far he runs in a 30 day month.

  43. What is 150 miles ?

  44. Sally’s garden has 58 different flowers in it. Each flower has 11 petals. This is about how many petals there are in Sally’s garden.

  45. What is 600 petals?

  47. Who is Molly with 1 more cookie?

  48. Jill went hiking on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday she hiked 2 ½ hours. On Sunday, she hiked 2 ¾ hours. This is the total number of minutes Jill hiked on both days.

  49. What is 315 minutes? Explanation: On Saturday, Jill hiked 2 ½ hours. Since there are 60 minutes in one hour, she hiked a total of 150 minutes on Saturday. On Sunday, she hiked 2 ¾ hours, which is 165 minutes. If you add 150 minutes and 165 minutes, the answer is 315 minutes.
