  1. Instructional Design Project The Appropriate Techniques on how to Facilitate an Effective Meeting. Gay Pickner LT 716 Summer 2002

  2. Executive Summary For the purpose of this project, I have decided to put together a one-day seminar for school personal and others on “How to Facilitate a Meeting”.

  3. Learner Characteristics The participants in the seminar are adults who facilitate meetings now or will have the opportunities to facilitate meetings as part of their professional responsibilities

  4. Resources and Constraints • The seminar will be held in a well-equipped conference room with ample room for participants to move around, wall space to hang our notes from that we have written during our small/large group sessions, and a screen/TV to view the videos.

  5. Goal The main project goal is to have the participants that attend this seminar leave with knowledge and experience on how they can become better facilitators for meetings they organize.

  6. Sequence of Instruction • Participants will be exposed to the different components of a meeting • Discuss experiences attending meetings and leading a meeting • Discuss part of a meeting and the appropriate way to facilitate meetings • Role play leading a meeting • Reflect on how participants benefited from attending the workshop

  7. Assessment Since my project is in a workshop setting, there will not be any type of formal assessment. What I anticipate doing is to give a pre self-assessment inventory before the workshop and after the completion of the workshop using the same self-assessment sheet.

  8. Instructional Framework The instructional models that would best fit my project would be Role-Playing and Cognitive Apprenticeship.

  9. Instructional Media Some media that I will use during these sessions are: flip charts, video cameras, VCR and different videotapes, TV or project that can be connected to the VCR, and booklets that the participants take when they leave.

  10. Prototype • Hand out the information. • Do a pre self-assessment of their skills. • In a large group setting will share experiences. • Go through the handouts. • Watch VCR tapes. • Get into small/large group to discuss each portion. • Demonstrate how to facilitate meetings by presenting a hands-on presentation. • Watch the tapes of the participants and critic each other. • Do post self-assessment.

  11. Formative Program Evaluation The criteria that I will use will be some type of checklist that the expert evaluator will construct to be used during the seminar.

  12. Summative Program Evaluation This part is extremely difficult since I have not conducted this seminar. I do feel that it is important to spend the money and hire an external evaluator for this project.

  13. Instructional Design Model The Appropriate Techniques on how to Facilitate an Effective Meeting. The major attribute of my model is that I feel this seminar is something that all people who conduct meetings should attend

  14. Resources/Handouts The resources that I have included in this seminar are an import component to this project. The participants will take with them all of these handouts.
