  3. Thoughts From The Editor This is the Premier is of a new magazine devoted to the love of Porsche Sports Cars, While some may say this subject has been written about ad naseum we feel otherwise. This will be a magazine with a different approach to the coverage of these fine automobiles. We will initially publish 6 issues per year with plans to increase the frequency to 8 per year followed by 12 per year. A little history may be in order for those not as familiar with Porsche as they may like to be. Picking up this magazine is the first step in learning about what many consider the finest sports car ever made. We will attempt to introduce you to the many different models Porsche have produced over the years. The first production Porsche was the 356. The first 356s were put together using left over VW parts in order to prepare for various races being organized following World War II. Success of the racing models pushed the 356 into production with Dr. Porsche anticipating a run of 500 type 356 Porsches. Just a few short years later the Porsche family were celebrating the completion of the 10,000 Porsche 356! An auspicious beginning to say the least! Following the success of the 356 the company recognized it was time to launch a newer, larger, more powerful model – the 911. Launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1963, the type 901 (as it was initially known) was a instant success. Due to legal issues with the Peugeot Company, Porsche changed the nomenclature to 911 and the rest is, as they say, history! The same 911 design has been in production for 40 years! A record in anyone’s book! Of course, there have been other models, but none with the success as the 356 and 911. The 924, 928, 944 and 968 are some of the other models well received by the public and seeing brief production periods. The racing successes of Porsche are the stuff of legend! No other car company has had so much long term success in so many fields of competition as Porsche. Winning the fabled 24 Hours of Le Mans a record 16 times over the years, they have also won every other race they have been eligible for at least once, and usually several times. That, dear friends, will be the topics we will attempt enlighten you about over the coming issues. Enjoy! Ed,

  22. Technical Q & A’s • Q. I get a lot of blue smoke at startup after my car sits for a few weeks - am I in need of a valve job? • A. Depends on how much smoke and how long it last. Many 911s that smoke after sitting for a while are normal and it stops after a few miles. Persistant, continuing smoking may be the sign of worse trouble. • Q. What sealant should I use for the case halves? • A. I’ve had good luck with Seal it 1234. • Q. What’s the widest wheels that will fit under my 89 911 wide-body without rubbing? • A. 8x17 • Q. xbxxnxnnsjdjfjsjsssssssssjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj • A. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm • Q wwwwwwwwwwwmmmmmmmmmm • A. bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb • .Q. gggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg • A.
