  2. There are three experiments that have constructed or are constructing RICH counters with CsI photocathodes: • COMPASS • RICH detector for kaon Physics in Hall A at Jefferson Lab • ALICE (STAR) RICH 2004, Playa del Carmen

  4. 3 m 6 m vessel mirror wall photon detectors: CsI MWPC 5 m radiator: C4F10 COMPASS RICH-1 - DESIGN from the experiment design: • hadron PID up to ~50 GeV/c • LARGE acceptance (large size): H: 500 mrad V: 400 mrad • able to stand trigger rates up to 100 KHz • beam rate up to 108 Hz • minimize material + detector designed in 1996 radiator: C4F10 detection of VUV photons (165-200 nm)

  10. JLAB Hall A RICH: the evaporation system Quantum Efficiency 110 cm Measurement System details in : F.Cusanno et al. NIM A502(2003)251 Photocathode 120 cm crucibles 10-6 mbar vacuum 2 nm/s CsI deposition at T = 60ºC (CERN experts indications). Vacuum - heating conditions starts15 – 24 h before evaporation.   15. Summary • No one has used a dry room for CsI handling. If we want to use we will have to prove that it does not affect the QE. • There is a lot of experience and know how around  A. Braem from CERN RICH 2004, Playa del Carmen
