  4. Staging • #1 issue • All incidents begin with staging • Staging does not work without using the map book

  5. StandardSetup • First Engine – Proceeds to the scene • First Tanker – Lays in to the attack engine • End of driveway • Hydrant • Second Engine – Establishes water supply • Second Tanker – Level 1 stage • Third Engine – Locate and establish a fill site

  6. Attack Engine • Offensive or Defensive • Primary Size-up • Columbia E901 is on the scene of a single story residential structure, flames showing side 1, E901 is assuming Route J command, all units Level 1 stage and check in on Gold on arrival.

  7. Attack Engine • Secondary Size-up • “Working Fire” • Columbia from Route J Command, 360 complete, working fire side 1 bravo quadrant, this house is on a walkout basement, command post is at E901, we are in the offensive strategy.

  9. First Arriving Tanker • Level 1 Stage • Announce Staging location • Rural Operations • Lay-in to the scene from end of driveway • Urban Operations • Lay-in from nearest hydrant • Nurse attack engine • Assist the attack engine operator

  10. Long Driveways • 91% less than 1000' (12500 driveways) • 6% between 1000-1500 (840 driveways) • 3% over 1500 (440 driveways)

  11. Supply Engine • Arrive on scene safely • Level 1 Stage • Announce Staging location and roll you are assuming • Never pass last water source

  12. Fill Site Engine • Locate the most appropriate fill site on the BCFPD map book prior to leaving the station • Announce staging location and roll you are assuming • Establish the fill site and announce location to the IC or water supply officer
