MINISTRY OF ECONOMY OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Consumer Trends • The development of tourism shows increased dynamics • The growth dynamics of visitors from neighbouring countries (Hungary) and Germany is on the decrease and moves towards the east (Russia and Ukraine) • More frequent participation in holidays while the average length of stay is shortening • The interest of foreign visitors concentrates on winter sports in ski resorts, vacation in the mountains, holidays at water resorts, spa vacations, wellness stays, guided tours, and shopping • The demand for hotels of higher category is growing fast (5 star)

MINISTRY OF ECONOMY OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Basic Objective The winning of new markets and on optimum satisfaction of needs of both domestic and foreign tourists in a sustainable environment in such a manner so as to achieve the best possible enhancement in the quality of life of the local population and benefit for the national economy. In fulfilling this goal the involvement of the local population in tourism has to be encouraged and the sustainability of the country and the towns and settlements respected.

  20. MINISTRY OF ECONOMY OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC 4 Principles • 1. Tourism is a tool of supporting increases in competitiveness, structural changes in the economy and sustainable development with the aim of increasing the share of forex income from active foreign tourism in GDP from the current 2.7% to 4% in 2013 and increasing the number of stays overnight. • 2. Tourism is a tool of developing employment and flexibility of labour markets. • 3. Tourism is a means of regional development and business development. • Tourism is a tool of presentation • and promotion of Slovakia.

MINISTRY OF ECONOMY OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Investment Aid • Act No. 561/2007 Coll. on Investment Aid • Entered into force on January 1, 2008 • Allows for provision of complex tourism centres • Incentives in tourism can cover up to 50 % of eligible capital expenditures • The minimum scope of investment required to apply for • state aid is SKK 500 mn/ EUR 16 mn, SKK 250 mn/ EUR 8 • mn, and SKK 100 mn/ EUR 3 mn • Forms of state aid – direct subsidies to procure material and immaterial assets, income tax allowances in the next 5 years, subsidies for jobs created within 2 years following • the project launch

  33. MINISTRY OF ECONOMY OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Important Milestones • May 1, 2004 – Slovakia became a Member of the European Union • December 21, 2007 – Slovakia joined the Schengen zone • January 1, 2009 – Slovakia's changeover to the Euro

MINISTRY OF ECONOMY OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC Introduction of the Euro • A positive signal of well performing and health economy • The benefits of the single market will be further enhanced by the single currency • The euro offers a credible framework for price stability as it removes exchange rate uncertainty within the euro zone • One common currency makes easier travelling in the euro area • More transparent comparison of quality to price for services • Slovakia will become more attractive as a tourist destination for foreigners – the growth of inbound tourism • For entrepreneurs – increased competition on the international market • Favourable conditions for the development • of outbound tourism
