  1. God’s Path to Freedom 1 John 1:5-10

  2. 1 John 1:5-10  5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

  3. 1 John 1:5-10  7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

  4. 1 John 1:5-10  9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

  5. What takes away a persons freedom? • Sin comes into a life • Sin reaches deeper into this life • Sin begins to dominate • Sin enslaves and becomes the master

  6. What doesn’t work to gain freedom • Acting religious v. 6 • Living in denial v. 8 • Trying to make it work without God’s help

  7. How do we gain this freedom?

  8. What do we mean by freedom? John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

  9. How do we gain this freedom? • By confessing our sin • To admit our wrong • To forsake our sin • God will forgive • God will cleanse us

  10. How do we gain this freedom? • By confessing our sin • By receiving God’s forgiveness • It is a deliberate act • It is done by faith

  11. How do we gain this freedom? • By confessing our sin • By receiving God’s forgiveness • By walking in the Light • Jesus is the Light • Jesus is our freedom

  12. Jesus sets us free John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
