  1. Effort Tracker Program overview for students

  2. Effort Tracker™Information for students Scores that you receive from the Effort Tracker system will be used to determine a portion of your overall grade • The Effort Tracker system is used to help the teacher: • Equalize student participation opportunities • Give more frequent credit for in-class effort and class-work • Recognize and reward strong and consistent effort

  3. Effort Tracker™Information for students Effort Tracker tracks student effort and reports it in real-time • Effort Tracker scores are updated in real time – • Your teacher will give you and/or your parents an access code to review your scores. Student Teacher using Effort Tracker Data transferred to the “Cloud” Parent/Guardian Approved adults Requires ACCESS code (no cost) Requires yearly SUBSCRIPTION

  4. Effort Tracker™Information for students • The Effort Tracker system is used to assess the in-class effort you are applying to your learning. • When your teacher is observing your effort he or she will often determine your score by using the following simple equation: • (applied effort) • (capable effort) × 10 (By the way, this formula does not directly relate to time. A teacher may record a zero score for a student who has been on task 75% of the time because the teacher believes this is far below the student’s capable effort.)

  5. Effort Tracker™Information for students • The five Effort Tracker categories are: • Ready? • Q & R • On-Task • U Choose • Recognition

  6. Effort Tracker™Information for students Category: Ready? the “Ready?” category is used to score student readiness at the start of class. • Students who earn high scores in Ready?: • arrive on time • have supplies • quietly listen as the teacher begins class

  7. Effort Tracker™Information for students Category: Ready? the “Ready?” category is used to score student readiness at the start of class. • Five to ten students are scored each time – scores and names are not normally announced. • “Ready?” may also be used when student attention is needed to clarify directions or to transition to a new learning event.

  8. Effort Tracker™Information for students Category: Q&R (Questions and Readers) This category is used to equalize and score participation opportunities Effort Tracker uses a random generator to list student names When your teacher needs a student to read, answer a review question, offer an opinion, etc. – don’t raise your hand – the app highlighter will select whose turn is next.

  9. Effort Tracker™Information for students • How can students earn high scores for Q&R Reading? • The main thing is to stay focused: • When your name comes up to read – start right away – don’t worry about making a mistake – everyone does including your teacher • Read normally or with expression but do not read to entertain

  10. Effort Tracker™Information for students • How can you earn high scores for Q&R Questions? • If you don’t know the answer when called on for a review question, show that you were listening by using the question in your response • “I don’t remember the name of the enzyme that changes starch to sugar.” • After the correct answer is given, your teacher may call on you again (and raise your score) a technique known as no-opt-out

  11. Effort Tracker™Information for students Category: On-task This category is used to give students more frequent credit for in-class effort and class-work • The On-task category allows your teacher to: • Easily score your effort and class-work in real-time • “Title” a learning event (e..g. “Grp Quiz1”) or just score under the “general” label

  12. Effort Tracker™Information for students Category: On-task This category is used to give students more frequent credit for in-class effort and class-work • If your teacher has titled a learning event, they plan to score all students • Using the group quiz example – your teacher would go from group to group to assess and score the focus and participation level of each student.

  13. Effort Tracker™Information for students Category: On-task This category is used to give students more frequent credit for in-class effort and class-work • Under the general category, some or all of the students will be scored and the place where your teacher leaves off will be saved for the next time your teacher is using this category.

  14. Effort Tracker™Information for students Category: U Choose This category (along with Ready?) may be renamed by your teacher • Examples of categories used to replace U Choose: • HmWrk (homework check) • Debates (choose and score the debater) • Helpers (help with errands, demonstrations, or clean-up) • C Rules (score compliance with class rules)

  15. Effort Tracker™Information for students • Recognition bonus program • used to recognize and reward strong and consistent effort Effort Awards – recognize and reward recent student effort The Effort Achiever Program – recognizes and rewards sustained effort over longer time periods

  16. Effort Tracker™Information for students • Category: Recognition • This category is used to determine Effort Awards Effort awards add a bonus to your overall percentage (the bonus amount is set by your teacher – normally between 2 and 5%.) Teachers should announce the Effort Award bonus winners, even if they do not have printed Effort Awards to give to the winners.

  17. Effort Tracker™Information for students • Category: Recognition • This category is used to determine Effort Awards • The list of student names is randomly generated • If, on the day your name is highlighted, your percentage is at or above the minimum set by your teacher (perhaps 87%) ANDyou have complied with all classroom rules you will be scored a “Yes” which means a BONUS will be added to your Overall Effort Score

  18. Effort Tracker™Information for students Effort Achiever Program The Effort Achiever program is like an honor roll for effort. Achiever Level 3 Achiever Level 2 Achiever Level 1 Overall % ≥ 92% bonus = 5 Overall % is from 89 to 91%, bonus = 3 Overall % is from 86 to 88%, bonus = 1 (Your teacher will set the percentage range and corresponding bonus earned for each Achiever level. The percentage range will depend on what maximum value your teacher sets on their scorepad – the example above corresponds to a teacher who sets their maximum score at 9.5. A teacher who uses a max score of 10 would want to raise all percentage levels, perhaps setting Achiever level 3 at 96 or 97%. )

  19. Effort Tracker™Information for students Effort Achiever Program The Effort Achiever program is like an honor roll for effort. Achiever Level 3 Achiever Level 2 Achiever Level 1 Overall % ≥ 92% bonus = 5 Overall % is from 89 to 91%, bonus = 3 Overall % is from 86 to 88%, bonus = 1 (Bonuses earned through both the Effort Award and Effort Achiever programs are calculated automatically but not normally added to your grade until the end of the marking period. The next few slides will show you how to check your scores and current bonus status.)

  20. Effort Tracker™Information for students To see your up-to-date Student Report go to: • www.e4effort.com/access • and enter your access code. • (Your access code may be obtained from your teacher.)
