  3. What is Offered? KGIC offers students the opportunity to improve English skills, develop life skills, explore Canada, make new friends, have fun and enjoy an experience of a lifetime! Pictures of students

  4. How long is the Program? Students have a choice of 2, 3 or 4 Weeks

  5. How old are the students? The Global Leaders summer program is designed for students ages 8-17 Pictures of students

  6. Where is the program held? KGIC’s Global Leaders Summer Camp runs on campus at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada Pic of Vancouver

  9. Where will students Stay? Students will live in residence on campus at UBC!

  10. What Is Included with the residence? • Single or double room • Bed, desk, closet, shelving • 3 meals a day • Internet access • Shared washroom facilities • Laundry Facilities (student pays) • 24 hour supervision • Social lounge on each floor with TV, fridge & microwave

  12. Residence Rules Upon registration all parents and students must read and sign the residence rules contract. All students staying in residence must abide by all residence rules. pic

  16. Goal Setting Having clear and defined goals is a skill that successful people have in common. The goal-setting curriculum will focus on teaching students how to set realistic, achievable goals to help ensure success in their own lives. pic

  17. Writing A necessary skill for entrance to any Canadian University our curriculum will develop creativity, style and structure. pic

  18. Reading & Vocabulary Reading is one of the most important skills any student can possess. Our curriculum aims to expand vocabulary, pronunciation, and comprehension. Today a reader, tomorrow a leader Margaret Fuller

  19. Grammar Using vocabulary introduced in the reading, daily grammar units will focus on some of the distinct structures of the English language, including articles, prepositions and pluralization. pic

  20. Listening The daily listening activity is designed to reinforce vocabulary studied in the day’s earlier reading and lead into the topic for conversation. pic

  21. Conversation The conversation curriculum encourages students not only to speak, but also to listen and ask questions – two very important skills in the art of conversation. pic

  22. What is the club curriculum? Our club curriculum incorporates the idea of dual learning to improve students’ English while developing another skill in one of our afternoon clubs. pic

  23. About the clubs Each week, Global Leaders will offer four clubs that the students can join. Clubs will be either artisticor athletic. Twoof each will be offered. pic

  27. Curriculum Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions. Harold S. Geenen KGIC’s Global Leaders curriculum is focused around the idea of leadership and success and is designed not only to improve English ability, but to encourage students to work towards success in their lives.

  28. TOEFL Junior Test Students that are 11 years and older will take the Junior TOEFL Test in their last week of classes. Students will receive a certificate with their official TOEFL score.

  29. Activities Activities that are included in the program have each been selected for different reasons. Some are chosen for their educational value, others to develop life skills, and some are chosen simply because they are fun. pic

  39. Special Prize Activities Included in the program is a chance for students win the opportunity to go either horseback riding or go-kart racing. pic

  40. How to win the prize activities • Student earn entry forms throughout the program • Students fill out the entry forms and then drop it in the ballot box for either horseback riding or go-karting • If student’s name is drawn he or she wins and goes on the activity with the other winners. pic

  41. How do students earn entry forms? Students can earn entry forms in many different ways including: Win! • Doing well in class or on assignments • Doing extra work • Showing leadership • Taking initiative • Good behavior • Trying to break a record • Breaking a record • Entering the talent show • Achieving a goal • Cleaning • Doing community service • Doing volunteer work

  42. Parent’s Schedule For those parents who wish to visit Vancouver with their children, KGIC has designed a schedule specifically for them.

  43. Parent / Student Activities? • Parents will join the following activities with their children: • Vancouver city tour and Beach BBQ Party • Campus tour • Grouse Mountain • Granville Island tour • Rocky Mountain trip

  44. Parent Only Activities • Victoria trip including world-famous Butchart Gardens • Luncheons and Shopping Trips • UBC Botanical Gardens • Tours of Prestigious High Schools • Special Evening Activities

  45. Parent Accommodations • Parents joining us on the summer program will stay in apartment style residence on Campus at UBC. • Residence has 4 bedrooms, lounge area, full kitchen and 2 bathrooms.

  46. Are the dormitories safe? Safety for all participants on the Global Leaders program is the number one priority; the 24 hour supervision provided by KGIC staff and further security provided by UBC make living in the dorms very safe.

  47. Is there a hospital Nearby? Yes, there is a hospital located on campus at UBC should any emergencies arise.

  48. Are the dorms COED? Boys and girls will be separated by floor in the dorms. That is, each floor will have either all boys or all girls. There are 36 students per floor.

  49. Is there a gymnasium? Yes, there is a gymnasium on campus along with tennis courts, an ice-skating rink, a swimming pool and basketball courts.

  50. What about meals? Students staying in dorms will take most of their meals in the dormitory cafeteria. In addition, there will be special meal nights and meals served on outings. pic
