  3. SEI SoS Architecture Workshop • The Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is convening an invitation-only one-day workshop of SoS architecture experts to review and shape ongoing research. For the past year, one focus of our Composing Assured Systems of Systems project has been architecture patterns for SoS integration – we have interviewed experts to assess the state of the practice, developed an approach to identify and catalog relevant architecture patterns, and have started to assemble a catalog of integration patterns for use by SoS architects. We are holding this workshop to get feedback from experts to assess the utility of our pattern catalog, which will be distributed to participants for review approximately 3 weeks before the meeting. • The agenda for the workshop is: • - Introductions • - Presentation from SEI team summarizing our research results • - Experience reports from participants (15 minutes each) identifying how a patterns catalog would be used on a development project, or discussing the use of a particular SoS integration pattern. No prepared slides are necessary – we will use a format of verbal presentation with (or without) whiteboard sketches. • - Working session to identify gaps in the catalog, discuss how to use the catalog and at what points in a project, and discuss how the catalog should be organized and presented, and other issues. • Wrap-up and summarize findings and action plan • The workshop will be held from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm on Wednesday 21 Aug 2013, at the SEI’s Arlington, VA office: • 4401 Wilson Boulevard Suite 1000 • Arlington VA 22203 • (Metro – Ballston Station) • http://www.sei.cmu.edu/locations/washington/

  4. Mission Analysis / Architecture • Input from John Loshe following the June joint meeting: • “I think the meeting went very well. It was certainly enjoyable for our MA Cmte to engage with your team. I think we generated lots to think about regarding how to go forward with the response to Col Ogawa. Everyone thought it best absorb the information we went over and then reconvene to determine the best path forward. And we agreed we needed to work on a common terminology. We defined a few things a little differently and this didn't allow for seamless discussion.” • Next Steps? • Receive and review the MA subcommittee whitepaper • Meet with MA committee again as followup

  5. Future Meeting Discussions • Meet with M&S • Guidance / stance on how M&S, MBSE, Architecture all fit together (semantics, etc), possibly suggestions for where go with standards in future • Keep thread of DoDAF, SE, Architecture discussion going • INCOSE MBSE Working Group updates • Barb to send out status as shown at symposium
