  1. Sango Elementary Monday, September 12, 2011 Reading Our story this week is “The Mystery of St. Matthew Island.” The reading skills are fact/opinion, fantasy/reality and summarizing. The vocabulary words are: carcasses, scrawny, suspicions, starvation, parasites, tundra, decay, bleached.Test Friday! Language Arts We will continue our study of nouns with common/proper nouns and correct capitalization of nouns. We will have an assessment Thursday that will cover singular/plural,special plural, common/proper and correct capitalization. Math Students will continue to write expressions. They will also solve inequalities. Quiz on Thursday. Center work that we started last week will be due by Wednesday, the 14th. Science We will continue to study the ecosystem and how humans can impact the environment. Students will test on Thursday. Social Studies Government projects are due Tuesday, September 20. Your children are creating 2 tri-fold brochures that explain government. One of them should be on our local government and one should be on our state government. The rubric as to how it will be graded was passed out Friday. We will continue with our government unit this week as we study our first amendment freedoms and the rights established in the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th amendments. There will be a quiz over the above mentioned amendments on Thursday. • JUST A REMINDER… • Please sign and return the yellow weekly folder. • If your child is going to be dismissed at all during the school day, PLEASE send a note in to the teacher first thing in the morning. • Teachers enter grades into POWER SCHOOL each Monday by midnight. If you have questions about logging in, please stop by the front office. • If your child wears glasses, please help to ensure they bring them to school. Thanks! • September 15th is PICTURE DAY! • September 16th is an early release. Car riders will be dismissed at 1:10. • Government Projects are due Tuesday, September 20. • Parent Teacher conferences are Thursday, September 22nd and Thursday, October 6th. Schedule times went home today in the weekly folder. PLEASE let us know if there is a conflict and you need to reschedule.
