  20. Native Mode Dependencies • There is no such concept as “Exchange 2003 native mode.” Both Exchange 2000 and 2003 servers can live in a native mode Exchange organization. • However … • Query-based Distribution Groups (QDGs) can only be created in a native mode Exchange organization. • If routing bridgehead pairs are upgraded to Exchange 2003 in a native mode org, they will use 8BITMIME data transfers instead of converting down to 7-bit. This equates to a considerable bytes on the wire saving over Routing Group Connectors. • In native mode, the Exchange Store automatically ignores and removes zombie ACE entries (applicable if you previously had Exchange 5.5 in the organization). Click the “Ask a question” button in the lower left section of your screen to submit a question.

  21. Advantages of Integration

  22. Customers can use Exchange 5.5 SP3, Exchange 2000 SP2/SP3, and Exchange 2003 with Windows 2003 GCs and DCs. • Exchange 2003 Server is the only version of Exchange supported to be run on Windows Server 2003

  24. Server Consolidation • Server Consolidation for Exchange 2003 similar to Exchange 2000 • Exchange 5.5 customers will see similar consolidation opportunities for Exchange 2000/2003 (using Outlook 2000/2002/2003) • Exchange 2000 customers will not see additional server consolidation improvements using Exchange 2003 • Additional Server Consolidation possible if using Outlook Web Access Click the “Ask a question” button in the lower left section of your screen to submit a question.

  25. Site / Network Consolidation • Site Consolidation for Exchange 5.5 & 2000 customers possibilities: • If using Outlook 2000/2002, no site consolidation opportunity • If using Outlook 2003, it depends on: • size of organization, Public Folder and Free Busy usage, and Outlook 2003 features enabled/disabled (Cached Mode, Offline Address Book size, drizzle mode) • Site consolidation possible using all Outlook Web Access clients (using GZip) • Network bandwidth reduction possible using Outlook 2003 Cached Exchange Mode • Assume approx 30-40% network savings • End-users are shielded from network outages • End-users perform local searches faster than previous clients • RPC/HTTP removes requirement for RAS/VPN overhead
