  1. In your notebook or on a fresh sheet of paper: • Freewrite about a text that you have read and enjoyed that has shaped you and your goals as a writer. • Freewrite=exploring on paper, just getting ideas down • About 5 minutes—try and write the whole time, generating details and ideas.

  2. Pair with someone sitting near you and share your freewrite. • Look for commonalities and differences • Come up with 2 discussion highlights to share with the class

  3. Hand out reading log assignment.

  4. Work alone or with a partner to create a reading log for “Exit” Be sure to create one of each type of entry.

  5. Exchange logs with another person/pair. Check to see that they have made an appropriate entry for each type. Offer feedback as needed.

  6. Read around of favorite log entries.
