Strengthening Father Involvement in African American Families • Engage, partner with and fund grassroots and informal efforts in the development of a comprehensive network of fatherhood resources and supports. • Reach out to black men thru grassroots, non-traditional social networks • Build social capital at the community level • Recognize the importance of churches • Directly fund and build capacity for organizations where a majority of board, staff and population served is African American

  13. Strengthening Father Involvement in African American Families • Increase relationship building skills and self-worth for African American men and their families (culturally appropriate and community driven). • Change female and male perception that men are not needed to raise children

  14. Strengthening Father Involvement in African American Families C. Increase the role that dads play in the community. • Help ex-felons understand when they can and cannot vote

  15. Strengthening Father Involvement in African American Families • Increase access to education and employment opportunities among African American males by providing mentoring, internships and job opportunities • Create jobs • Increase minimum wage

  16. Strengthening Father Involvement in African American Families E. Strengthen formal and informal partnerships to address structural barriers including racism and discrimination • Change, develop and implement policies that reduce structural barriers including racism & discrimination • Look to African American history and culture to address barriers
