  1. Tactical Ploys Winning the Break Purpose: Description: Get players into match positions marking each other. Goalkeeper starts play with a puck out. All puck outs to be played down either wing to half forwards. Half forwards job is to flick the ball out to the sideline he is closest to while midfield or backs come onto the breaking ball.

  2. Tactical Ploys Puck Outs and good use of the ball between both 45’s Purpose: Description: Players mark each other and get into position. Coach places a line of cones along both 45 yard lines. Game starts when goalie pucks out the ball. When one team wins the puck out or break, they try use the ball well and create a score. All scores to be got between both 45's.

  3. Tactical Ploys Third Man Midfielder Purpose: Description: Spare midfielder to play in between both midfielders. Job is to support half back line and both midfielders and move the ball fast when in possession. Cut out space for opposition half forwards and midfield. If oppositions spare player follows out third midfielder we play 2v2 on the inside full forward line.

  4. Tactical Ploys Short Puck outs Purpose: Description: Set up 3 squares as shown 1 forward in each square. There is then a 3 v 6 situation game play. The 3 forwards in the square are allowed to move from their square once the goalkeeper begins his run to puck out the ball. The goalkeeper must strike the ball to one of the 6 defenders. The defenders must clear the ball between one of the gates at the opposite end of the field.

  5. Tactical Ploys Cross field ball Purpose: Description: 13 v 13. 2 squares of 20 x20m on each side of the pitch with an extra player in each. Backs from both sides must work the ball to the extra man in either of these two squares. Once the player in side receives the ball he must deliver it to forwards on the opposite side of the pitch. Progression – There is no player in the box but the team in possession are the only ones allowed enter the box in order to give the diagonal pass.

  6. Tactical Ploys 15 v 15 Game Purpose: Description: Game works on switching the play coming out of defence to create space for the inside forwards. Only one player from each team is allowed in channel either side. Defenders must work the ball to defender in the channel who then must find his teammate in the channel at the other end of the pitch. After a while have the defenders marking the attackers in the channels both ends.

  7. Tactical Ploys Playing an extra defender Purpose: Description: On the whistle the game begins with a midfielder on the attack. The extra defender must then decide where the best position for him/her to be is. Coach can feed the ball in from various different angles.
