ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • MARKETING: • Do you have an easily recognisable name and logo? • How do you know this? • How often do you update your webpage? • How is your Society described in the handbook? Is it accurate? • How do you advertise your Society and its events? How effective have these methods been? • How do you know this? ENGAGEMENT

How effective will your stall be? • How do you get members involved once they have signed up? • How often can your members meet the committee to pass on ideas and feelings? • What do you do to make members feel like they are part of your Society? ENGAGEMENT

  7. ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • WHAT IS SWOT? • SWOT Analysis is a common tool used in strategic planning. It stands for: • Strengths • Weaknesses • Opportunities • Threats SWOT

  8. ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • STRENGTHS: • What resources do you own (including money)? • What do you do particularly well? • What do you do better than other societies? • EXAMPLE: Well attended socials. SWOT

  9. ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • WEAKNESSES: • What don’t you do so well? • What don't you have but really need? • What could be made easier to do? • EXAMPLE: Poorly produced marketing materials SWOT

  10. ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • OPPORTUNITIES: • How can you expand upon the things you do well? • Is there anything at the SU to take advantage of? • What about in the local community? • EXAMPLE: We could raise for charity with RAG. SWOT

  11. ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • THREATS: • What could happen which affects you adversely? • Will the economic climate affect you, for example? • What could the University do to affect you? • EXAMPLE: An increase in transport hire costs. SWOT

  12. ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT YOUR PLAN: Having identified your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats you can now seek about addressing them. DEVELOPMENT PLAN

  13. ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • YOUR PLAN: • Set an aim • What will you need to do to meet the aim? • What actions, resources, people will be required and in what time frame? DEVELOPMENT PLAN

ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT • EXAMPLE: • Aim: Increase membership numbers • Objectives: Improve Societies Fair Stall; Organise Welcome events in Fresher’s; Target recruitment by attending specific events/lecture shouts. • Actions: Produce marketing collateral; have collateral professionally printed; book venues etc. to be completed by Committee by Freshers Week.
