  1. Enzyme Lab Write-Up Hints Name: Date: Block: • Title: Include the following terms: • Enzyme Rate of activity..( this is our DV) • Temperature, Concentration, pH (IVs) • Analyzing or studying. Analyzing the Effects of pH, Temperature and Concentration on the Rate of Enzyme Reaction

  2. Background: In your paragraph(s) define and explain the following: • Structure of enzymes • Function of enzymes • How enzymes work • How enzymes are specific • Where enzymes are found • Denature definition and how that relates to the lab.

  3. Introduction Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to analyze the effects of pH, concentration, and temperature on the rate of enzyme reaction. (Description of what you did-explain/use the following ideas as a minimum). • Describe lab in general • How we varied IV, measured DV • How we maintained controls

  4. Introduction Different concentrations of enzyme, including 0-4 drops were added to hydrogen peroxide. One drop of water was the control to determine that the enzyme was the component that reacted. Rate of enzyme reaction was measured with a gas pressure sensor that calculated the amount of oxygen gas produced. Various pHs including 4, 7, and 10 were tested through the same apparatus.

  5. Hypothesis (3) As the concentration increases, the rate of enzyme reaction will increase because there is more enzyme available to do work. pH Temperature.

  6. Illustration • Include ALL the materials and label everything. • Use a ruler for lines. • Show the experiment step by step. • Use captions to explain each step.

  7. Table

  8. Table Continued

  9. Graphs • 3 graphs, use 1 piece of graph paper, 2 on front 1 on back • Label all axis • Use units on axis • Titles • Evenly spread out increments • No computer graphs

  10. Analysis and Results • For each IV explained what happened. • Accept or reject hypothesis. • USE REAL NUMBERS(your data)!!

  11. Analysis and Results When the concentration increases the rate of enzyme reaction increased. At 0 drops the rate of reaction was 0 Kpa/s, at 1 drop it was 4.3 Kpa/s, 2 drops was 7.1 Kpa/s, 3 drops it was 10.6 Kpa/s and finally at 4 drops it was 14.2 kPa/s. My hypothesis was accepted.

  12. Error Analysis • If your data did not prove your hypothesis, speculate sources of error. • Avoid “human error”. • Avoid using opinions. • If your data proved the hypothesis to be correct, talk about parts of the lab where you had to take special care in order to get accurate data.
