Enzyme Lab

Enzyme Lab. Enzyme Reaction. 2H 2 O 2 → 2H 2 O + O 2 Hydrogen peroxide → water and oxygen uses catalase. ARE ENZYMES SPECIFIC?. Are Enzymes specific to a certain substrate? In other words, do enzymes work on more than one substance or do they specifically work on just one?

  1. Enzyme Lab

  2. Enzyme Reaction 2H2O2 → 2H2O + O2 Hydrogen peroxide → water and oxygen uses catalase

  3. ARE ENZYMES SPECIFIC? • Are Enzymes specific to a certain substrate? In other words, do enzymes work on more than one substance or do they specifically work on just one? • Enzymes are specific. They work on just one substrate.

  4. ARE ENZYMES REUSABLE? • Yes. Enzymes can work again and again.

  5. HOW DOES TEMPERATURE AFFECT ENZYME FUNCTION? • High and low temperatures cause enzymes to stop working.

  6. Mono, Di, Poly Polysaccharide Lab

  7. Mono, Di, and Polysaccharide • Monosaccharide- • Apple juice • Disaccharide- • Sugar water • Polysaccharide- • Starch Water

  8. Mono, Di, and Polysaccharide • Monosaccharides turn orange in hot water in the presence of benedicts solution. • Polysaccharides turn blue-black in the presence of iodine.

  9. Elodea and salt water

  10. Elodea and salt water • What happens when salt is added to an elodea leaf? • It pulls the water out of the cells. The cells shrink. This happens because the solution outside the cell is hypertonic and the solution inside the cell is hypotonic.

  11. Permeability Lab

  12. Permeability Lab Starch and water are inside the plastic bag. Iodine is in the water in the beaker. What happens to the iodine? It diffuses into the bag and causes the starch to turn black. Does the starch leave the bag? No, it is too big to fit through the pores of the bag.

  13. Photosynthesis in Elodea Lab

  14. Photosynthesis in Elodea Lab What happens when plants are given a source of carbon dioxide (baking soda) and light? They perform photosynthesis. What type of gas is released? Oxygen.

  15. Nutria Lab

  16. Be able to make a graph from a table of data.
