Fees & Scholarships • no domestic student fees for a PhD at UWA • domestic scholarships at UWA • Australian Postgraduate Award • University Postgraduate Award • $22,860 tax free (for 2012) + top-up • UWA safety-net top up = $3,500 for 2012 • typically 10 to Psychology each year • international scholarships • International Postgraduate Research Scholarship • covers fees and provides living allowance as per domestic scholarship • Scholarship for International Research Fees • fees only

Applying for Scholarships • Domestic students • Two rounds of applications • Next round closes October 31, 2011 • International students • Two rounds of applications • Next round closes September 23, 2011 (i.e. this Friday!) • For all scholarships: • http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/future-students/postgrad

  7. Assistance • shared office • PC • additional conference travel at UWA • $3,400+ • + $1,000 national with supervisor • general research expenses • $2,000 plus participant reimbursement

Steps in PhD process • find area, supervisor(s), topic (before submitting applications) • form panel, submit proposal (by 5 months) • enrolment provisional for first year • research, writing, conference • more research, more writing, another conference • annual meetings and reports • submit thesis (can be collection of journal articles)

  9. Master of Science (research) - MSc • similar to a PhD but smaller • apply anytime • one-two years duration • domestic students are eligible for APA/UPA scholarships
