  32. FIRST IMPRESSIONS MATTER DRESS CODE

  33. DRESS CODE: SHIRTS • A visible 3D shirt which should be tucked in at all times. • Sleeves should be unrolled • Only plain white, grey, or black short sleeved and long sleeved shirts may be worn underneath 3D shirts.  • On Fridays only, students can wear college and college-preparatory, private, boarding school shirts • Shirts that are signed at the end of the year should not be worn throughout the year.

  34. DRESS CODE: BOTTOMS • Appropriate fitting (length, size and tightness) khaki pants, shorts, and/or skirts. • Pants and Shorts –Tan Khakis or Navy or Black pants. Pants and shorts must be of a plain nature with no logos. Cargo style pants, Capri pants, and shorts are acceptable. • Jeans are not allowed unless permission is given for a special event. • Pants and shorts must have belt loops and a belt must be worn at all times. Pants and shorts will be worn at or above the waist; if the pants sag below the waistline (between the waist and thighs) or cover the shoes, they are too big.  • Tan Khaki or Navy or Black pants skirts and shorts should be knee length or slightly above knee length, no more than 2 inches.  Splits in skirts should be no more than 2 inches above the knee.  Jean skirts and shorts are not allowed. Shirts must be tucked into skirts and shorts. • If the seam of the undergarments is visible or the fabric cannot be pulled away from the leg with ease, the bottoms are inappropriate. Form fitting pants (including stretch fabrics worn underneath shorts or skirts) and pants with handprints or wording in appropriate places are also unacceptable. 

  35. DRESS CODE: SHOES • Earrings only in the ear (no other body piercing is allowed), earrings may not be larger than a half dollar in diameter or length (approximately one inch long).  Earrings must not pose a distraction to students wearing them or to other students.

  36. DRESS CODE: JACKETS • Students are only allowed to wear 3D issued or college sweatshirts, jackets or coats inside the building.  • If students wear a heavier coat to school, they are not allowed to wear it in the building. • Students can wear college and college-preparatory, private, boarding school jackets every day.

  37. DRESS CODE: PROHIBITED ITEMS • Headgear (hats, bandanas, do-rags, etc.) unless it is religious garb or 3D issued for PE class/athletics. • Make-up (mascara, eye make-up, lip gloss, lipstick, or blush). • Vests, or other clothing that covers the 3D name on student uniforms. • Fake nails. • Unnatural highlights in hair (example:  green highlights).

  38. DRESS CODE: ACCESSORIES • Earrings only in the ear (no other body piercing is allowed), earrings may not be larger than a half dollar in diameter or length (approximately one inch long).  • Earrings must not pose a distraction to students wearing them or to other students. • 1-1-1 Rule:  One necklace, one bracelet per wrist, one ring per hand • No massive neck chains with large medallions • No earrings larger than the size of a half dollar • All appropriate necklaces must be tucked inside the shirt. 

  39. DRESS CODE: OTHER • School issued P.E. uniforms, track suits, sweat pants, pajama pants, loose-fitting athletic shorts are to be worn ONLY during gym class or while participating in athletic events. • Students are allowed to wear shirts from any KIPP school Monday-Friday. • Students may not wear items (t-shirts, jackets) that have not been earned. For example: a 7th grader wearing an 8th grade jacket.

  40. NO (WO)MAN IS AN ISLAND SHARED SPACES

  41. CAFETERIA LUNCH • Students will enter cafeteria by class. • Students will fill in seats one by one, beginning with table nearest cafeteria line. • Students will be dismissed to line one table at a time, beginning with the first table (they will drop stuff and proceed immediately to line) • Once line is short enough to fit in serving area, the next table will stand and line up. • Students will eat lunch and will remain seated until dismissed for clean-up. • Students will begin dumping trash FIVE MINUTES before dismissal. • At dismissal time, students should monitor their voices and return to silence once teachers are present in the pick-up location (middle aisle) BREAKFAST • Students will not be allowed to enter cafeteria until 7:00am. • All students will enter cafeteria through back doors (near kitchen). • All electronics, headphones, etc. must be off and away before entering cafeteria. If visible, they will be taken. • If a student wants breakfast, they must go immediately to breakfast line. If a student does not want breakfast, they must go immediately to the first open seat at a table. Students may not get breakfast after they have sat down. (Exception: Students carrying large projects, large instruments, etc that make it difficult to also carry breakfast may put their belongings down first.) • Students may sit quietly, chat with friends, eat, use restroom, read until dismissed for homeroom. • Students may not get out of their seats unless given permission (using hand signals) • Students may not go to classrooms until dismissed for homeroom.

  42. QQCC HALLWAYS • Students walk through hallways with the following expectations: • Quickly – Students move to and from their destination with urgency. • Quietly – Students are allowed to talk, however, they do so at a volume that does not disrupt the learning of others. • Calmly – Students walk in a way that keeps hallways safe and moving (no rough housing, touching, pushing). • Courteously – Students show respect towards others by sharing the space, using manners, and being nice. • When waiting and walking, students should always face forward. We do not lean on the walls or lockers. • Classes may not go into classrooms or open classroom doors until welcomed in by teacher. • Any student in the hallway for any reason should have a pass. • Students walk to and from class using the route identified by teachers.

LIFE BINDERS & AGENDAS Your Life Binder should be organized as follows: • Senior Cover page in front plastic cover • Commitment to Excellence inside page protector • Letter to yourself inside page protector • Agenda • Tickets & anything that needs a parent signature • Homework Tabs by Subject: • ELA • Math • Science • Social Studies • Spanish • Character Goals page in back plastic cover

  45. MORNING WORK • Pick up Morning Work as soon as you enter the classroom. • Go to your assigned desk, take out your Life Binder and open it to current day’s agenda page. • Silently work on your Morning Work. • Turn in your Morning Work as you exit the room for your first class. *If you miss homeroom, it is your responsibility to get the Morning Work that you missed and turn it in by the end of lunch. *If you are absent from school, it is your responsibility to get the Morning Work you missed and turn it in by lunch the day you return to school.

  46. PAYCHECKS & TICKETS • Paychecks and tickets are due the day after they are sent home. • Failure to return a ticket or paycheck the following day will result in a call home during homeroom. • If the ticket or paycheck is not returned within 2 days, you will have to stay at school until your parent or guardian can come to the school to sign it.

FIRST 5 • Come in silently. • Take out your agenda and write tonight’s homework EXACTLY AS IT IS WRITTEN ON THE BOARD. • Take out last night’s homework and place it on top of your open agenda and place it in the corner of your desk. • Make sure you have all of the materials needed for class. (Hold up 4 fingers if you are missing materials.) • Begin your DO NOW.
