Proportion

  • Size relationship between different parts of the body.

  • Head, chest and abdomen about the same

  • Arms legs and trunk grow fast

  • Changes increase balance and motor skills

Posture

  • How straight the child stands

  • At 2 stands upright, but abdomen protrudes, head forward, arms and legs bent.

  • By 3 straighter and more upright

Height and Weight

  • Walks with more coordination and confidence.

  • Climbs, even in unsafe places.

  • Pushes self on wheeled toys.

  • Runs, but may not be able to stop smoothly.

  • Alternates feet going up stairs, but not going down.

  • Throws a ball overhand, but inaccurately.

  • Kicks balls.
