  2. What is the Personal Statement? Your opportunity to provide the university more information about yourself that has not been told on the application. A chance for you to give the university strong reasons why you should be admitted out of thousands of applicants. Writing the personal statement • Plan to format your writing for each topic and stay within the word limit: • Introduction (1 paragraph; less than 100 words) • Body (1 or 2 paragraph; 300-400 words) • Conclusion (1 paragraph; less than 100 words) • Stay on topic - always remember what the topic is and what the questions are asking. • Be specific and detailed. (Check out our blog for a Word List.) • Keep it interesting and positive – for instance, if you mention about your failure, please focus on how you overcame or what you learned to do better.

  11. Writing the personal statement • Vary your sentences and use transitions • Do not begin your sentence with “I” all the time. When describing what happened in the past, please use “past-tense”. • Use formal language: • For instance, no “gonna”, “okay”, and spell out abbreviations – “You are” not “You’re” • No texting language, like “ur,” or “BTW,” LOL! • Revise, revise, revise! Proofread, proofread, proofread! DO NOT copy or plagiarize!!

Fortunately, my father is a businessman, so my family can live in an easy and comfortable life. I have a brother and a sister. They are older than me. I am the youngest in my family. Because of I’m the youngest, everyone who in my family all love me… • In our life, we always have many accomplishments, it may be very a difficult thing or a easy thing, but I think it must be a good memory and experience in your life, sometime it maybe make you proud of yourself, Because you have this accomplishment. Such as me, I also have some special accomplishments, But my most precious accomplishment is always make me feel proud of myself. • To attend High school of Beijing University, that is why I began to learn math contest when I was in elemental school. In Beijing, every good junior high school will hold a math contest by themselves to choose students. If students have some prize about math contest, they will have advantages to enter the greatest high school…
