  2. Goals • To prepare teachers to use the new version of WebCT, Blackboard CE6 • To encourage teachers to integrate technology in their instructional practice • To inform teachers about faculty support services offered at CTLT

  3. Objectives • At the end of the workshop participants should be able to: • Explore the interface and home page • Use the assessment feature • Use the Grade Book • View and Post Discussion Messages • Identify a faculty support program

  4. Why Teach Online? • Advantages • Asynchronous - Courses become accessible for teachers and students at distant locations • Self directed learning • Student-centered environment • Collaborative learning • Individual attention to students

  5. Why Teach Online? • Limitations • More time consuming for instructor to manage • May limit access to students with poor computing • Subject to server downtime and internet disruptions • Interactive online discussions are more time consuming • Students could easily procrastinate • Content may become confusing if not well organized • No benefit from body language communication • Require excellent reading and writing skills
