The VAWA Attorney elaborates that one can apply for VAWA if either they have suffered physical abuse or if there has been severe emotional abuse, or if there is a combination of the two. However, states the VAWA Attorney, it is certainly possible under certain circumstances for the male to apply for VAWA. In most cases, when the male applies for VAWA, states the VAWA Attorney, it is because of severe emotional abuse. Don’t let the name VAWA confuse you. The VAWA Attorney explains that VAWA is an acronym for Violence against Women Act. However, states the VAWA Attorney, it is not limited to women. In many cases, the woman would demean, threaten, verbally abuse, have affairs and a plethora of other items which would result in the severe emotional abuse of the husband. Thus, the VAWA Attorney states that it is perfectly acceptable for the husband to apply for VAWA under this basis. The VAWA Attorney in that case can be applied for based upon both physical abuse and severe emotional abuse. The VAWA Attorney states that it is more difficult to get an approved VAWA petition for a man, but under the right circumstances, it is certainly doable.
