  1. Ethics

  2. Bell Ringer • What are Business Ethics? • What is the goal of business? • If something helps your business, but hurts other people, is this ethical?

  3. Instructions • Create groups of about 4. • Everyone should be writing. Each individual will hand in their work for this assignment, and therefore EVERYONE needs to write what the group discusses down. • AS A GROUP define three general ethics principles, and explain why those principles have universal qualities.

  4. Create a T chart • On the left side identify and list 5 ethical business practices based on the reading. • Consider: • Why it is important to use ethical behavior? • Why would someone want to be ethical at work? • What steps should you follow to make ethical decisions? (Are these steps realistic) • Do the ethical decision guides make you change your decision? On the right side compare the ethical business practices to the ethics your group decided on. List if you agree or not with the Business ethics.

  5. Individually • Write your own personal code of ethics. • Your code of ethics should be a guide to ethical decision making. • Your guide should include 5-7 principles that will help you make ethical decisions. • Each point should be based on sound ethical principles or practices.

  6. Ethical Dilemma • Groups will be assigned 2 ethical dilemmas. • The group must come to a consensus about what the “ethical course of action,” will be in their dilemmas. • Each group will have one writer who will write down the questions and steps that the group goes through to reach their decision. (This will be handed in, so make sure every group member’s name is on it.)

  7. Consult the Top Ten Questions You Should Ask Yourself When Making An Ethical Decision handout that you have been given. • Once you have reached your “ethical decision” each group member must prepare and submit an explanation/defense of their decision. • Answer the questions on the Ethical Dilemmas Record Sheet.
