  2. Agricultural Service Product Validation

  3. Objectives • To assess the performance of selected agriculture service products in Zimbabwe through a comparison of the products with field measurements and observations

  4. Objectives • to determine whether the SADC THEMA Current Rainfall Estimate (CRFE) significantly correlates with ground rainfall estimates; • to determine the extent to which the current SADC THEMA agriculture mask accurately represent cropped areas;

  5. Objectives • to determine the extent to which SADC THEMA Cumulative Dry Matter Productivity Map accurately estimates agricultural drought based on crops condition; and • to determine whether the Water Requirement Satisfaction Index (WRSI) from remotely sensed images accurately estimate crop condition particularly crop vigour

  13. Conclusions • WRSI from the FEWSNET agrees with ground observations • RFE also agrees with ground observations • The agriculture mask needs improvement • Cumulative Dry Matter Productivity needs to be validated in a different way

  15. Objectives • The main objective of the validation exercise is to assess the performance of selected fire service products in Zimbabwe through a comparison of the products with field measurements

  19. Conclusions • There is a significant positive relationship between the Canadian Fire Danger Index (CAFWI) Fire weather indices and the fire indices calculated from ground data • The relationship does not always hold all the time, there are times, when there is no significant relationship between the two products
