Every Child, Every Day, Whatever it Takes! • It is our belief that a cooperative spirit will be mutually beneficial as we (home, school, and community) work together to provide the best educational experiences possible for the children. • It is also our belief that a fun, yet challenging educational regimen, will promote a strong and solid core for children as they travel their educational course. We will do our best to provide an exciting, comprehensive, enriching, and appropriate program [(based on our Grade Level Expectations (GLEs)] to challenge the students to reach their fullest potential.

  4. Vernon Middle School 5th Grade Office • Visitors must report to the 5th grade office. • Proper ID is required. • VMS visitor badges must be visible at all times • while on campus. • Parents/guardians are expected to sign students in/out at the 5th grade office.

  5. Medication Policies • Medication may not be brought and kept by students to be taken during the school day. • Trained school personnel may administer medication during the school day if a medication has been prescribed for a chronic or ongoing condition. • Forms to be completed by the attending physician and the parent can be obtained in the office from the secretary. • All medication must be brought to and from school by an adult. Dress Code • White or black tops (Polo/Oxford style with sleeves and collars) • Khaki bottoms (No jeans, cargo or sweat pants) • Black or brown belt • Sweaters/Sweatshirts ( Must be white or black) • White, khaki or black socks • Shoe styles are optional (No backless/strapless sandals or high heels) No cleats, caps/hats or sunglasses are permitted. No designer labels. T-shirt days are designated by principal.

  7. Attendance Louisiana Law: Students must attend school a minimum of 160 days. School begins at 7:50 a.m. School dismissals begin at 3:00 p.m. Students may not be checked out after 2:45 p.m. Excuses for absences must be received within 5 school days. 3 unexcused tardies and/or early outs = after school detention.

  8. Parent Pick-Up/Drop Off • Use circle drive around back of school. • Students will enter/exit through 6th grade hall at the West end of the building. • Drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. • Pick-up begins at 3:05 p.m. • Students must be picked up no later than 3:20 p.m.

  9. Positive Behavior Plan Teachers will familiarize students with VMS campus, classroom, and bus rules. Following the rules = Positive Behavior Rewards. Breaking the rules = Consequences. Refer to pages 10-12 of student agenda.

Pupil Progression PlanEvery child, every day, whatever it takes! • To be promoted, students must demonstrate proficiency in grade level skills, as defined by state content standards, by meeting the following minimum requirements: • Must make a passing grade average in English Language Arts, Math, and at least one other major subjects (science or social studies).  • To receive a passing grade, students must earn a minimum of six (6) quality points per year, with at least three (3) quality points earned in the second semester.  • Students who are failing to meet any of these requirements shall be referred to the School Building Level Committee throughout the school year.
