  3. Mrs. Georgia Johnson • 6th Grade Homeroom and 6th Science; 6th-8th Social Studies • E-mail gjohnson@staustinschool.org • Office hours: Monday, 3:30-4:30, or schedule any day but Wednesday after school, or any morning at 7:30. • Classroom expectations can be found on the school website

  4. Homeroom Expectations • Students should bring a written reason for any absence

  5. 6th Grade Science Expectations Arrive on time. Bring materials to class. Complete assigned homework. Science News articles once per quarter. Science Fair project, completed independently during the Spring Semester.

  6. Social Studies Expectations Arrive on time. Complete homework. LOTS OF MAPS! I expect opinions to be supported by reason. See “Mrs. Johnson’s Classroom Expectations” on the St. Austin website. 8th Grade has a MAJOR research project on the Civil War. 6th Grade has a project in the spring on Mythology. 7th Grade has small projects completed during their computer time.

  8. Homeroom Expectations • Start the day with a positive attitude. • Students should bring a written reason for any absence or tardy. • Meet in library for morning prayer. • Meet in MS Room 3 at day’s end to end with prayer and receive any handouts or special instructions.

  9. 6th-8th ELA Class Rules Be Respectful • Show respect for your classmates and teachers. • Raise your hand to speak. • Do not interrupt someone who is speaking. • Do not get ready to leave unless your teacher dismisses you. Be Responsible • Turn in your assignments on time. • Listen carefully and follow directions • Work well independently and with others. • Work quietly and do not disturb others. • Use class time wisely. Be Ready • Get to class on time. • Come to class prepared w/all your materials. • If absent check “Here’s What You Missed” binder or contact a classmate. • Use your agenda daily.

  10. 6th-8th ELA Expectations • ELA consists of 5 components: • Reading , Grammar, Vocabulary, Spelling and Writing • Grading: 6th • Tests, quizzes, projects, reading & writing pieces (Major) 40% • Grammar exercises, Vocabulary Workshop exercises, Spelling, graded classwork and homework assignments (Minor) 40% • Daily Journal Writing 10% • ELA Binder 5% • Reading Log 5% • Grading: 7th/8th • Tests, quizzes, projects, reading & writing pieces (Major) 45% • Grammar exercises, Vocabulary Workshop exercises, Spelling, graded class work and homework assignments (Minor) 40% • Daily Journal Writing 10% • ELA Binder 5%

Grading: • Classwork 30% • Tests/Projects/Quizzes 40% • Homework 25% • Binder/Notebook 5% *All Pre-Algebra students will take an end-of-course exam at the end of the school year.

  14. 8th Grade Homeroom Expectations • Students should bring a written reason for any absence • Meet in library for morning prayer • Meet in Room 1 at day’s end to end with prayer and receive any handouts or special instructions

  15. Math Expectations • Arrive on time. • Bring materials to class. Complete assigned homework. • Keep up with your notes and binder. • Tests given every five lessons, starting with Lesson 10. • Grading: 7th Math – 20% Daily Work 15% Binder/Notes 65% Tests 8th Algebra – 15% Daily Work 15% Binder/Notes 70% Tests • All math students will take an end-of-course exam at the end of the school year.

Complete assigned wo homework. • Science News articles, once per quarters 1, 2, & 4 • Science Fair project, completed independently during the Spring Semester • Grading: 40% Daily Work, 60% Tests/Quizzes • Late work not accepted, 1 daily grade dropped per 10 • More detailed information can be found on my websites

Religion Expectations • Come to class with materials. • Homework is usually incomplete classwork or studying for a quiz/test. • Ten points are deducted from homework that is late. • Summer service hours are due by progress report time or the quarter (for new students). • To view any other pertinent information, see my pages on the St. Austin website. • Grading: • Class Participation – 10% • Classwork/Homework – 50% • Quizzes/Tests - 40%

  19. 6th Grade Math Expectations • Always try your best. • Come to class prepared. • Show all work. • All work must be neat and legible. • Grading: • 55% Tests • 35% Homework • 10% Binder Placement in Pre-Algebra or 7th Grade Math will be determined at the end of the year using multiple criteria.

  27. Extracurricular Choir • Choir is open to students in grades 3 and above. Class schedule: Thursdays, 3:15-4:30

  28. Music Academic Policy • All students in extracurricular music programs should agree to maintain their academic best. At any time, if a student is experiencing academic issues and needs a short time-out from band and choir to work on academics, the student’s parent should notify Mrs. Corroa.

  29. Music Performance Uniform • Performance uniform: white collared shirt(could be school Mass shirt),black pants/skirt, black shoes, red choir vest or band cummerbund(issued by school and returned by end of year).

Art Elective Objectives • -To communicate feelings and ideas through creative visual expression. • -To develop familiarity and skill with an increased variety of media and technique. • -To develop understanding and appreciation of self and others through art and it’s history and culture. • -To explore, analyze and critique art and artists throughout history and the art exhibited by peers. • -To develop skills in the care and safe use of art supplies and equipment.

  43. Art Elective Requirements • All students who take the Art Elective are required to keep a spiral bound sketchbook (no smaller than 8 1/2 x 11). Students are expected to do at least one sketch for homework per week in their sketchbook. Each sketch should take between 45- and 60 minutes to do because the purpose of a sketchbook is to make students look harder at things, use their imagination, and explore ideas and techniques that interest, challenge, and stimulate them. A list of sketchbook ideas and prompts can be found on the art web page at www.staustinschool.org.

  44. Art Elective Grading • Middle school students who elect to take art will receive a grade of E, S, N or U .  Grades will be given for each assigned project and their sketchbooks. This grade will be based on a student’s ability to meet the expectations listed above. • E-ALWAYS follows directions, meets or exceeds expectations, completes projects with the greatest craftsmanship and creativity. Always stays on task, participates in group discussions and clean-up. • S-MOSTLY follows directions, meets expectations and completes most projects with good craftsmanship and creativity. Mostly stays on task, participates in group discussions and clean-up. • N- OFTEN DOES NOT follow directions, meet expectations and/or completes most projects with a lack of craftsmanship and creativity. Often does not stay on task, participate in group discussions and clean-up.   • U- DOES NOT follow directions, meet expectations and/or completes most projects with a lack of craftsmanship and creativity.
