2. Office of Academic Affairs • The Engineering Advisory Board Meeting will be held in St. Louis at the St. Louis Airport Marriott on February 26-27, 2009. The Solar Team will present at the meeting. • Mindy Fleisher, Supervisory Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office will be on campus February 16-17, 2009 to give a seminar on intellectual property (Monday, 2/16, 4 pm, Missouri-Ozark Rm.) and meet with several classes. • The Request for Evaluation for the Computer Science Department was submitted to ABET on January 23rd (due date: January 31st). The department is in the process of preparing their Self-Study report. • Four departments have submitted departmental level non-tenure track faculty policy/procedures for review and approval. Two have been returned to the departments for further consideration and two are currently under review.

Office of Sponsored Programs FY09 activities through the end of January and a year-over-year comparison are as follows: Proposals awarded in total dollars: $31.6M (up 20.9%) Number of proposals awarded and amendments: 232 (up 6.9%) Proposals submitted in total dollars: $90.1M (1%) Number of proposals submitted: 321 (up 1.6%) Research expenditures: $22.8M (down 5.9%) F&A recovered: $3.9M (up 25.3%)

Office of Undergraduate StudiesFebruary 2009 Accreditation Site Visit-February 23-25, 2009Since 1913, Missouri University of Science and Technology has maintained accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). This year, we are in the process of re-accreditation. NCA Representatives will visit Missouri S&T on February 23-25, 2009 to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the campus. All employees should be aware of the University’s mission statement and how their individual role on campus helps the University to achieve its mission. In addition, employees should be available to meet with visiting team members upon request. No appointment is necessary for this opportunity to visit with the NCA team. Undergraduate Research Conference scheduled for April 8, 2009The fifth annual Missouri S&T Undergraduate Research Conference will be held on Wednesday, April 8, at the Havener Center. This event provides opportunities for students to showcase research efforts to the campus community and to the public. The research conference will include oral and poster sessions. Registration deadline is March 16. Registration materials are available online at ugs.mst.edu/ugrc.html. The office of undergraduate studies needs faculty judges for the event. 12. Office of Undergraduate StudiesFebruary 2009 Externship ProgramThe Missouri S&T Externship Program has been established to provide Missouri S&T students and corporate mentors with opportunities for student leadership learning engagement in the corporate workplace.  The externship program functions as a volunteer "shadowing" opportunity in which students will spend from one to five days during their spring break (March 23-29, 2009) actively learning corporate leadership practices related to specific work environment themes.    Boeing Mentor ProgramThe Office of Undergraduate Studies is working with Boeing to match students with company mentors.  Participating students will have held an internship or co-op with the company, have attended a Boeing job shadowing event, or be recipients of Boeing scholarships.  This programs serves to promote the development of one-on-one relationships between S&T students and Boeing professionals and to provide insight into developing career goals and skills. Learning Enhancement Across Disciplines Program (LEAD) The LEAD Program provides learning assistance for over 40 courses on campus in eleven departments (http://lead.mst.edu/assist).  Director Ron Bieniek is grateful to the 35-50 S&T faculty who, each semester, operate open-environment LEAD Learning Centers of cooperative guided-learning as their office hours for their courses.  This helps hundreds of students who attend them to increase their understanding, improve their skills, and validate their mastery of course material.
