  2. Objective of the presentation • To show the situation of disabled population in 1984, 1994 & 2007 population and housing sensus

  3. Specific objective • To show the disabled population by sex, Urban & Rural in 1984, 1994 & 2007 population and housing census • To show the percentage distribution of disability by sex, Urban & Rural in 1984, 1994 & 2007

  4. Scope of the Presentation • The presentation is limited to 1984, 1994 & 2007 population and housing census of Ethiopia, specifically on disability

Method of data collection and Designing of Disability Questionnaire • In the 2007 census Questions were administered to every household member was asked about the disability status • Questioner are designed in collaboration with the Federation of Disabled (to see the questioner from disability perspective), with AAU, CSA & other partners

  6. In 1994 census Questions were designed based on 1984 census and other countries experience. Questions were administered to 20% of the total households in each enumeration area • In 1984 census questions were administered to 20% of the total households in each enumeration area

  7. Disabled Population by Broad Age Group Ethiopia, 2007 • 805492 disabled persons constitute 1.09% of the total population • 0.56% are in the age group of 0-14 • 1.10% are in the age group of 15-49 • 2.66% are in the age group • 5.80 % in the age group of 65 & over

  21. Disabled Population by Broad Age Group Ethiopia, 1994 • 988,853 are disabled persons • this is 1% of the total population • 120 males per 100 females. From the total disabled persons • 17.7 % are in the age group 0-14. • 48.0 % are in the age group 15-49 • About 34.3 % are in the age group 50 and over.
