  2. What is Spinning? • Spinning is an aerobic exercise that takes place on a specially designed stationary bicycle called a spinning bike. As you pedal, motivating music plays and the instructor talks you through a visualization of an outdoor cycling workout: "You're going up a long hill now, you can't see the top yet.…" During the class you vary your pace sometimes pedaling as fast as you can, other times cranking up the tension and pedaling slowly from a standing position.

  3. Why I chose spinning • I chose spinning class because my sister teaches classes at the local gym in my town. She always urged me to try it out and I enjoyed bicycling as a kid so I figured I would give it a try.

  4. Why are people there? • Spinning burns serious calories (about 450 in 45 minutes) and offers an awesome aerobic workout that makes your heart pump fast. It also tones your quadriceps and outer thigh muscles. • Motivation is given by the instructor, makes people work harder • There is soothing and energetic music while riding

  5. How it made me feel • I really enjoyed spinning class. It provided me with the vigorous workout that I needed. During the class I felt very relaxed and stress free because the lighting was rather dark and we listened to soothing music. After class I was drenched in sweat and exhausted. The next day my legs were sore so I knew it was a good workout.

  6. How it made them feel • After class, I looked around and saw that most people had the same reaction as me. They walked away exhausted with a smile because of the great workout they just had. I asked one girl why she liked spinning and she said it is a great way to relieve stress while burning a lot of calories.

  7. How spinning fits within our society • Spinning fits perfect with our society because everyone knows how to ride a bike. It does not take much coordination to take classes because the bikes are stationary.

  8. Tips for spinning • Arrive five minutes early to class so your instructor can answer any questions and help you adjust your bike • Stretch your legs and back • Bring a towel to wipe off sweat • Make sure your feet are fastened into the clips
