  4. French and Indian War -Proclamation of 1763 -DEBT--------> TAXES!!!!!! -Sugar -taxed imports -strengthened smuggling laws

  5. Short term causes • Stamp Act (1765): -special stamps for all documents -taxed every colonist -Sons of Liberty -Samuel Adams -Stamp Act Congress -boycotts -tarring and feathering

  6. 2. Quartering Act -colonists must house troops -Writs of assistance: searching homes

  7. 3. Townshend Acts (1768) -glass -lead -paint -paper -TEA (3 penny tax) -Sons of Liberty NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION!!!!! 4. Boston Massacre -March 5, 1770 -Crispus Attucks + 4 others killed
