  1. Silica & Its Applications by Brisil

  2. Brisil is leading manufacturer of highly dispersible silica and precipitated silica based in Gujarat, India. It produces precipitated silica & highly dispersible silica using biomass (rice husk ash & others) for tyres, rubber products, paint, toothpaste, food and other industries. Brisil is a leading company addressing the problem of rice husk ash utilization. Rice husk ash is the leftover generated after using husk as fuel. Brisil has developed an innovative green technology to use rice husk ash to produce green precipitated silica and highly dispersible silica.

  3. What Is Precipitated Silica? Precipitated silica is an amorphous form of silica (silicon dioxide, SiO2). it is a white, powdery material. The three main classes of amorphous silica are pyrogenic silica,  precipitated silica and silica gel. Among them, precipitated silica has the greatest commercial significance.

  4. Highly Dispersible Silica The Highly Dispersible Silica is used as filler in energy efficient green tires to improve the mileage of vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles.

  5. Applications of Highly Dispersible Silica & Precipitated Silica Tires Precipitated Silica has become key filler for the tire industry due to its properties and performance. Precipitated silica in tire improves physical & dynamic properties such as tensile strength, abrasion resistance, tear resistance, wet grip etc. Silica is perceived by the tire industry as a material which can address the environment challenges associated with the tire production, and can replace carbon black in the tires.

  6. Highly Dispersible Silica for Tires – • Highly Dispersible Silica is used in tires due its better dispersibility; making it better reinforcing filler in tires. Good dispersion allows a greater filler contact area and a better homogeneity of the filler distribution within the compound. It also improves abrasive resistance and toughness of the tires due its abrasive nature and tensile strength.

  7. Globally, all major tire companies are looking to increase silica content in tires to improve the tire performance and reduce carbon black content. Brisil’s Highly Dispersible Silica is best suitable for energy efficient green tires. The highly dispersible silica in tires results in: Improved Process-ability Better Tensile Strength Improved Tear Resistance Better Abrasion Resistance Better Hardness

  8. The major advantages of using Highly Dispersible Silica in tires are – Improvement in mileage due to improved rolling resistance Improved safety due to better wet grip Reduced Green House Gas Emission Abrasion Resistance Improvement Reduction in carbon black consumption Brisil has worked closely with some of the biggest tire companies in the world to develop most advanced highly dispersible silica.

  9. Conventional Silica for Tires Brisil produces conventional precipitated silica for the tire applications. Brisil has wide range of specification for tires application, producing different grades for different type of tires.  Addition of Brisil’s Silica has the following advantages for tires: Improves wet traction, rolling resistances, and fuel efficiency Improves wearing resistance and tensile Strength of tire treads Better road handling and winter performance Better abrasion resistance Better dynamic properties Good abrasion Improves overall tire performance

  10. Industrial Rubber Products Brisil’s green precipitated silica is used as a reinforcing agent in natural and synthetic rubber and products made from rubbers. This silica has application in belts, conveyer belts, gasket & seals, rice rollers and similar applications. The silica particles form physical bonds with the rubber molecule chain to strengthen the vulcanized compound.  Brisil’s green silica is added in the rubber products to - Improve abrasion resistance and toughness Improve tear resistance and tensile strength and reinforcing strength Provide longevity and durability Enhance resistance to heat build-up Improve color retention and/or translucence

  11. Highly Dispersible Silica For Industrial Rubber Products Brisil's highly dispersible silica can be used for industrial rubber products for better performance & quality of the end product, and improved processability. Highly dispersible silica offers excellent metal bonding and high tear resistance for Rubber parts for damping and vibration applications like Engine Mounts High stiff ness, lower abrasion, higher tear resistance and long durability for Conveyer Belts. Higher Stiffness combined with longer elongation and optimized tear resistance for Gaskets & Seals requires metal rubber bond withstanding high load. Brisil offers powder, granular form of highly dispersible silica for various rubber product applications.

  12. Industrial Rubber Products

  13. Footwear Brisil offers various grades of green precipitated silica for footwear application. Brisil’s green silica enhances various properties in footwear such as abrasion resistance, durability and stiffness. Due to fine particle size, it will easily disperse in the matrix improving it modulus and resilience resulting in better flexibility & comfort. The major advantages of using Brisil’s silica in footwear are: It provides longer life and durability. Improves abrasion resistance, tear resistance and stiffness Better color effect for colored and semi-transparent soles

  14. Food Products Brisil’s green precipitated silica used in all type of powder like food products such as salts, sugar, spices, soup powders, milk powders to prevent the caking and induce the flow properties in the product. Brisil’s precipitated silica products are colorless, odorless, inert and highly absorptive materials. Due to its fine particle size distribution and smaller particle size, it is used as flow inducing agent. Adding Brisil’s silica in the food products improves the food product quality by: imparting uniformity to irregularly shaped particles and inducing flow ability reducing in ambient moisture content by absorbing free moisture preventing caking and agglomeration of the particles

  15. Toothpaste/Oral care Precipitated silica used as an abrasive agent in toothpastes due its abrasive nature. Low level of abrasion is sufficient for the efficient cleaning/polishing of the teeth. Abrasion is related to the morphology of the material. It also acts as thickening agent in the toothpaste and is also inert in nature. Addition of silica in the dental products has benefits such as: Better cleaning of the teeth while with very less dosage of silica in the product Improved colour retention

  16. Paints, Coatings & Inks Precipitated silica has been used by Paints, Coating and Ink industry due to various performance related advantages by silica. Smaller particle size of silica results in higher flow ability which improves paints, coating & inks’ anti settling properties. Its oil absorption properties prevent products spreading ability. Silica acts as a flattening agent that reduces the gloss of paints, varnishes, lacquers and other finishes. Key reasons of using silica in pains, coatings and inks are: Prevents spreading Induces anti settling behaviour Improves dispersion Lowers viscosity and improves stir-in capability

  17. Paints, Coatings & Inks

  18. Plastics Brisil’s precipitated silica is used as a thickening, thixotropic and suspending agent in liquid systems, paste emulsion and plastics etc. It acts as an anti blocking agent for cellulose hydrate and plastic films. Advantages: Improves extraction properties and better surface finish Prevents surface sticking of Plastic Films Easy process ability Better gloss and appearance
