  1. Diary of a Giraffe by Julia, fourth grade writer

  2. Dear Reader I hope you like my story of the life of a giraffe and all that they have to go through. I want to give a special thanks to Mrs. Briggs for being a great teacher. Next I want to thank Jessica E. for doing peer editing with me and helping this story be the best it could be Love, Julia 

  3. March 26, 1998 Dear Diary, I was just born 2 hours ago. My mom told me I weighed 150 pounds and was 6 feet tall. Man, I am FAT! Oh sorry. Please excuse my bad manners. I am Naomi Giraffe. Love,Naomi

  4. March 27, 1998 Dear Diary, Mom told me that giraffes have large hearts. Maybe that is why giraffes are so caring to others. ( They would risk their lives for their young. Would you? ) Love ,Naomi

  5. March 28, 1998 Dear Diary, Today we went to get dinner. (dinner for us is nice juicy leaves) When I went to go get a leave I could not even reach! My mom said “ When you are fully grown your head will be 20 feet above the ground” That is so high! Love ,Naomi

  6. March 29, 1998 Dear Diary, I just figured out that my favorite food is the prickly leaves of the Acacia tree. I loved the taste of it. I ate so much my belly is almost dragging! Now I probably weigh 165 pounds! Love, Naomi

  7. March 30, 1998 Dear Diary, Today my mother saved my life. A lion was chasing after me and tried to catch me and eat me. My mom, with one swift kick of her sharp, hoofed front legs, broke the jaw of the lion and saved my life. She is my hero. Love, Naomi

  8. March 31, 1998 Dear Diary, My mom is going to turn 24 next month. I do not want her to turn 25 because most giraffes don’t live past that age. Love your very scared and sad, Naomi

  9. April 1, 1998 Dear Diary, Did you know that the tallest animal in the world is a giraffe? I feel like the queen of the animal kingdom. OBEY ME! DO IT! Love , Queen Naomi

  10. April 2, 1998 Dear Diary, Today I used my very extra extra, long tongue that NEVER ends to get some food at Andrea Ostrich’s house. Tomorrow I am going over again. I can’t wait! Love, Naomi

  11. April 3, 1998 Dear Diary, My neck GREW last night! It is so long. Now I can get those leaves on the tree that I could not get before. ( Otter invited me over so I could learn how to swim) Love, Naomi

  12. April 4, 1998 Dear Diary, I just learned that I have a small brain. That’s very sad. Does that mean I am stupid? For future reference, giraffes can not swim! Love, Naomi

  13. March 26, 2013 Dear Diary, I am nearing the end of my life. Andrea is long gone. Otter died last month. I fell apart when my mother died 24 years ago. She did not die of old age. A lion attacked her. Love your dieing friend, Naomi
