  7. Predator Prey Relationships • Predator/Prey Relationship- an interaction between 2 animals where one kills and eats the other • Predator- an animal that has specific adaptations for catching and eating other animals • Prey- an animal that has specific adaptations to avoid being caught

Lion Adaptations that help it catch it’s prey *Thick mane helps male look bigger and protects the throat. *Tan coat color camouflages animal in scrub. *Eyes in front allow for depth perception and ability to judge distances when stalking or ambushing prey. *Rough tongue designed to peel skin of prey animal away from flesh, and flesh from bone. *Resonating roar used to warn intruders of territorial boundaries and to communicate with other members of the group

Zebra adaptations to protect against predators * The stripes are believed to confuse the predators and allows it to hide in the tall grass. * Zebra’s eyes are set far back almost on the sides of head. This allows them to see in front of them and on the sides *Zebra’s use their hooves to kick predators. *Zebra’s travel in herds. *Zebra’s ears are large and can rotate to pick up sounds from many directions

Plants and animals can have multiple defense strategies. • Example-camouflage, warning colors, chemical defense, threat display, false coloring, mimicry, protective coverings and behavioral defense.
