  2. When you are shopping for clothes, which of the following factors are most important to you??? Talk with the person next to you and be prepared to discuss! (write on your handout) • Price • Style • Fit • Color • fiber content • Care • Appearance • Quality • other?

  3. What would you wear to the following…. • Formal wedding • Job interview for a lifeguard • Meeting your boyfriends/girlfriends parents for the first time • Interview for a business job (after college) • Casual Outdoor wedding

CLASSICS Temporary, passing fashion Something that is “in” right now Usually extreme styles Simple in design Never go out of fashion May experience slight alterations throughout the years, but basically stays the same FADS With the person sitting next to you, come up with 4 examples of each & write on your notes!

  6. CLASSICS Examples: Overalls Doc marten shoes Examples now? Examples: Jeans Black dress Cardigans suits FADS

Where to shop? • Factory Outlets: stores that sell factory overruns or flawed items for bargain prices. • Discount Stores: carry “designer knock off items” or stylish and fashionable clothing for cheaper. • Catalogs: print or online shopping is convenient & prices are comparable (shipping cost)

  8. Where to shop cont. • Department Stores: • Carry a large variety of merchandise • Specialty Stores: • Ex: pet stores, make up stores, furniture, etc. • Does anyone ever buy an item (electronics, clothing, shoes, etc.) without really thinking about it?? • That is called an IMPULSE BUY!!!

  9. A little clothing math….  Let’s start simple… There is a sale at the dept. store on sweaters: Buy 1 get the 2nd ½ off!! Both of the sweaters are $56.70. You get both of them. Tax is $3.92. What is your total bill? $56.70+28.35+3.92= $88.97 Let’s try another… You buy 3 items at the store: $73.00 (jeans) $23.07 (top) $84.02 (shoes) The tax rate is 9% What is your total bill? $73.00+ $23.07+ $84.02+ $16.21=$196.3

  10. Why do we pick the clothes that we do? • Personal Statement • Culture, mood, etc. • Social Aspects • Sports team, dress code (school & work) • Dressing the part • INTERVIEWS!!!

  11. What is appropriate to wear to an interview?? First impressions are critical!! Think from head to toe Use the “Grandma” rule Now, fill out the Do’s & Don’t’s list on your worksheet!!
