BACKGROUND & MISSION • Provide exterior communication support (BASEBAND) for RF equipment and pier connectivity for the US Navy Fleet • SHF-DSCS (ADMS) • Challenge Athena (CWSP) • INMARSAT “B” HSD • LANT’s Base Level Information Infrastructure (BLII) T1 pier connectivty • Tactical Switching System (TSS) • Cornet Switch • SA-2112 Red/Black • Engineering Support • System design and implementation • Provide technical assistance to the Fleet • Provide engineering solutions to meet user requirements • Research & Development • Continue to look at new COTS equipment to keep up to date with current trends in technology and remain compliant with IT-21 WIDEBAND/COMMERCIAL SATCOM BRANCH

DIRECT SUPPORT TO THE FLEET • Technical Support In-place • Waterfront level support at shore test bed lab facility to service the fleet’s trouble calls as required • Online network node for testing equipment problems • Training In-place • New Systems Training Program (NSTP) • Informal On-the-Job Training (OJT) • BG/ARG SIT support • Technical representatives assists with C4I initiatives to prepare for operational readiness prior to deployment • Perform BGSITs • Perform BG/ARG SIT for AN/WSC-6(V)X • Perform BG/ARG SIT for AN/WSC-8(V)X • Configuration Management Office In-place • Providing integration of user circuits into the baseband system • Promulgates system configuration for classes of ships • Provide the fleet information on baseband upgrades and new equipment integration • Maintain configuration control for existing SHF and CA-III baseband system equipment • Maintain an in-house website for baseband system WIDEBAND/COMMERCIAL SATCOM BRANCH

DIRECT SUPPORT TO THE FLEET SAIC • Classified Message System • Manage the classified message system • Provide Siprnet web and e-mail service to both government and contractor personnel • TECH SUPPORT • Help desk for Automated Digital Multiplexing System: • SHF, Inmarsat, and Commerical Baseband Equipment Suites • FLEET SUPPORT • Peruse classified and unclassifed messages for Casualties to SHF, Inmarsat, Link, UHF, HF, ADMS, ADNS, etc. (Navy and Coast Guard) • Direct interface with units concerning casualties, updates, repairs WIDEBAND/COMMERCIAL SATCOM BRANCH

SUMMARY • In response to Configuration and Integration issues caused by the rapid introduction to the fleet of Commercial-Off-The Shelf (COTS) and Non-Development Item (NDI) communication subsystems within the Advanced Digital Multiplex System (ADMS), the Super High Frequency (SHF), the Commercial Wideband Satellite Program (CWSP), and the INMARSAT-B, HSD: • SPAWARSYSCEN Charleston Detachment Norfolk Wideband Satellite Communications Branch/Code 542 emerged to provide the SHF SATCOM Baseband Program a central place whereall issues concerning the system are addressed. • Subsequently, the New System Training Program was implemented to fill the gap in training between the implementation of COTS/NDI technology in the fleet and formal Navy training.
