Literature & Art: • Educates- teaches facts about the world, common sense, customs, one’s place in the world, new ideas. • Entertains- exercises one’s emotions, allows one to briefly escape reality. • Inspires- explores new ideas & views; affects changes in society. • Preserves the society’s history- includes multiple points of view. • Bonds humans together- universal themes

  7. Our Study in 10th Grade English:Foundational Texts in World Literature We will explore how certain important texts, although ancient, still impact our literature, art, and society as a whole.

  11. Homework • Record (written, audio, video) & prepare to share TWO real examples of oral tradition from your family. • Look up the helpful vocabulary for this lesson. Add the definitions that relate to today’s lesson to your notes. • Extra credit- The terms “society” and “civilization” are synonyms. However, their connotations are different. Explain how.
