  2. Internet trade in animals and plants (incl. CITES species) very popular in the Czech Republic Commercial activities with Annex A species prohibited (incl. offering for sale) - Article 8 (1) of the Regulation (EC) No. 338/97, possible for specimens with certificates exempting trade prohibitions Compulsory registration of certain CITES specimens in the Czech Republic To enhance effectivity of implementation of these regulatory measures new obligations for internet trade incorporated into CITES domestic legislation (Act No. 100/2004 Coll., in force since 1.1.2010) Introduction

Notice “CITES - obligatory documents” is compulsory part of an advertisement offering the sale of a specimen subject to the registration or a specimen subject to the prohibition of commercial activities (Annex A species) • Operators of web portals with advertisements offering the sale of such specimens are obliged to publish “obligatory information for public about obligatory documents, conditions for trade and compulsory registration of specimens” - link to document at the CITES web page ofthe Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic Obligations for internet trade in CITES specimens

Obligatory removal of advertisements violating CITES domestic legislation or prohibition of commercial activities if required by Enforcement Authorities • Not publishing of “Obligatory information for public…“ is an administration tort – fine shall be imposed up to 100 000,- CZK (about 4 000,- EUR) Enforcement of obligations for internet trade in CITES specimens
