  4. Purpose of the Committee Review and revise curriculum along with grading guidelines to provide consistent expectations and assessments across all PUSD high school student government programs.

  5. Committee Process • Three meetings scheduled with advisors, assistant principals, and curriculum and instruction leadership. • Introduced PUSD curriculum writing process. • Reviewed current practice, analyzed state and national standards. • Discussed current practice for content, expectations, and grading. • Initiated work to revise and design new course guidelines, grading, and assessments.

  6. Course Description This course will focus on group and individual leadership techniques directed at organizing, developing, and carrying out school and community projects. Students will be involved in the preparation of agendas, use of parliamentary procedure, creating presentations, and evaluation skills in facilitating the administration of Student Council activities. Activities shall include the study of effective leaders, character development, and critical thinking, as well as individual growth in these areas. Participation in grade-level cohort activities will also be included. This course may be repeated for credit.

Participation - Expectations • Pre-Campaign Notice • To be included in syllabus, campaign application and communications with students and family • All members of Student Government are expected to participate in sponsored activities including activities that occur on campus, but outside of class time as well as off-campus such as community service, prom, and conventions.

Student Government Guidelines for Participation Requirements • All members of Student Government (Student Council) are expected to participate in Student Council Sponsored activities including activities that occur on campus, but outside of class time as well as off-campus such as community service, prom, and conventions. • Being an active member of Student Government is all about hard work and dedication. While other factors in students' lives may take precedence at times, demonstrations of dedication and commitment are always necessary. Therefore, whenever students miss a mandatory event with a verified excuse, they may make-up the assignment by doing one of the following alternative assignments: · Attend a City Council / PUSD Board meeting and summarize the event · Write a book report on a book about leadership · Present a Leadership Lesson including a written lesson · Create a collage-poster which describes you including a summary · Present a song about leadership with an explanation of development of the lyrics • Student Government Instructors are also open to suggestions that meet or exceed the expectations of the list of alternative assignments. Any student who fails to verify the absence will receive an incomplete for the assignment and not be provided with the opportunity for make-ups.
