    1. Chránime vaše investície 1 30.09.2012 The world needs paint to preserve its assets. Rust is a costly and harmful phenomenon. We want to help people protect their assets from corrosion. But we also aim to provide more than just coatings. We also help our customers limit the impact their businesses have on the world’s eco-systems – and apply the same principles to our business. We are aware of our responsibility in this area, and we want our work to have a positive impact on our industry. We are working in a number of ways to become an even greater asset to our customers in this area. For instance, we are striving to help ships go faster and further using less fuel. This has a positive impact on the environment by limiting emissions and reducing energy consumption. The world needs paint to preserve its assets. Rust is a costly and harmful phenomenon. 9. 30.09.2012 9 Hempel has been around for 90 years. Our founder J.C. Hempel was a pioneer in the production of ready-mixed paints for the maritime industry. In 1915, it was common for shipowners to mix their own paints, but the result was often of poor quality. J.C. Hempel changed that by ensuring consistent quality, and service to match. We have consolidated our supply chain, and now our focus is on improving the supply chain so we can get the most out of a global manufacturing and distribution set-up. We have reduced the number of warehouses, consolidating distribution in fewer, larger depots. Supply chain flexibility is important under the current market conditions. Global history: We made our first exports in the early 1920s. These were followed by licensing agreements that allowed Hempel paints to be produced in other European countries. After the Second World War, Hempel developed into the largest independent coating business in the world. The next wave of growth came in the 1950s and early 1960s, driven by a prosperous shipping market. Hempel opened more factories and expanded the Hempel network around the world. The Group’s expansion into the Middle East resulted in five production units there. In the mid-1970s we began production in Japan, production under licence in South Korea, and built factories in Singapore and Indonesia. An initial licence agreement with Hai Hong Chemicals, a division of China Merchants Group, resulted in a joint venture in China. 25. 30.09.2012 25 Výsledky medzi rokmi 2004 až 2008 Hempel’s operating profit was EUR 89 million in 2008. This was strongly affected by non-recurring items, including the accrual for closing down the production facility in Denmark and the amortisation of the trademark of Lacor (acquired in 2007). Adjusted for non-recurring items, underlying operating profit was just above EUR 100 million (compared to EUR 96 million in 2007). Much of Hempel’s business is conducted in the US dollar and related currencies – and the weak US dollar had a negative effect on the 2008 results. 27. Hempasil X3: neviditelný náter trupu lode Problém: až 85% prevádzkových nákladov lode sú náklady na palivo Riešenie: Hempasil X3 hydrogélová technológia neviditelný náter trupu lode pôsobí antivegetacne (malým živocíchom sa javí ako tekutina) znižuje odpor vody SeaTrendŽ meria spotrebu paliva Výsledky: znižuje spotrebu paliva až o 8% znižuje emisie CO2 30.09.2012 27 Hempasil X3 is more than a groundbreaking product: it’s the first antifouling control product to guarantee fuel savings for shipowners – and it even comes with a tool to help shipowners measure its fuel saving effects. Fossil fuel prices fluctuated alarmingly during 2008, making fuel a huge, difficult-to-predict factor in the overall business performance of shipping companies. Container operators, for example, could spend up to 85 per cent of their operating costs on fuel. Hempasil X3 is an innovative product that uses hydrogel technology to make a ship’s hull appear as a liquid to fouling organisms. The ship’s hull remains clear of organic material, reducing drag – and as a result, Hempasil X3 reduces fuel consumption. We now guarantee that customers will save four to eight per cent in fuel in the first year after application. And the Hempasil X3 package even includes an advanced software tool, SeaTrend, so customers can measure performance, efficiency and cost benefits. Customer feedback has been extremely positive. After Hempasil X3 was applied to a Polish roll-on/roll-off vessel, the owners measured fuel savings of six per cent. Other successful applications include a cruise liner for Holland American which reported an 8.6 per cent fuel saving. A cut in fuel consumption also means a reduction in CO2 emissions – and if all the world’s vessels lowered fuel consumption by eight per cent, the industry’s total carbon emission would fall by 90 million tonnes a year (the same amount of CO2 emitted by Greece). Hempasil X3 won the Ingeniřren Product Award 2009. The prize is awarded by Ingeniřren, a magazine published by the Danish Society of Engineers, to new Danish products that demonstrate a clear market focus with outstanding technological innovation. UHSS: 2 je lepšie ako 3 Problém: výrobca veterných veží potreboval zvýšit produkciu o 30%, bez zvýšenia obsahu prchavých organických látok Riešenie: UHSS znižuje pocet potrebných náterov z 3 na 2 zasychá 2 až 3krát rýchlejšie spotrebuje sa menej plechoviek, riedidiel a cistidiel Výsledky: znižuje emisie prchavých organických látok zhruba o 50% eliminuje prekážky vo výrobe zvyšuje produktivitu zhruba o 30% 30.09.2012 28 UHSS = Ultra High Solid and Speed A wind tower producer in Sweden faced a problem. It needed to increase production by 30 per cent, without increasing the amount of VOCs its activities emitted. Our solution is an innovative coating system that cuts VOC emissions by around 50 per cent. The system reduces the number of protective coats from three to two, without compromising anti-corrosive performance. It also dries 2-3 times faster than other paint systems, eliminating production bottlenecks. Fewer coats mean fewer cans, thinners and cleaners. All this helped the customer increase productivity by around 30 per cent. UHSS = Ultra High Solid and Speed A wind tower producer in Sweden faced a problem. So the RFA is now working with two shipyard groups to bring down costs and improve service delivery – and Hempel is an essential part of the supply team. The shipyards, together with partners selected by the RFA such as Hempel, are responsible for the exclusive delivery of certain long-term maintenance and ancillary services to clusters of RFA vessels. As a result, Hempel will work closely with the RFA’s other contractors to deliver Coating Supply Services at the best possible value for money. The benefits to the RFA are: - The new contract removes the need to negotiate individual ship agreements (money saver) - It allows shipyards to take a long-term approach to maintenance (money saver) - Hempel has ‘ownership’ of the material fabric of the ship so we can ensure the vessels receive the highest possible corrosion protection and finish (quality)For the UK’s Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service (RFA), keeping a fleet of 16 support vessels operationally available is very expensive.
