  3. The French keep trying to block the British from moving West. The French even take over a British trading post and re-name it “Ft. Duquesne” (doo KAYN). We’ll build forts to keep the British from moving west. Robert Dinwiddie, the British Governor of Virginia, wrote to the French military leader in Ohio: “Sir, the country located on the Ohio River is so obviously the property of the British king that I am both surprised and hurt on hearing that a band of French troops is building forts on this river.” (p. 91 S. Studies book) “Whatever your instructions may be, I also have mine, which are: to remain here by orders of my general.”

  4. The French kicked the British out of Pickawillany, built forts to keep the British from moving west, and took over a British trading post. NOW WHAT? We’ll find out tomorrow!

(For example, if you are pretending to be French, you could write to your own French people, to the Native Americans or the British.)

  10. “It is important for us, my brothers, that we exterminate [wipe out] from our lands this nation [Great Britain] which seeks only to destroy us.” Even though the French and British signed a peace treaty, who was going to ‘have peace’? Pontiac, an Ottawa Chief, saw a problem.

  11. They attacked the British forts in Ohio Country. Henry Bouquet was sent to protect Ohio country. The Native Americans gave up. Pontiac persuaded some Mingo, Miami, Delaware and Shawnee to join him.

  12. NOW WHAT? We’ll find out tomorrow!
