  2. How did he become an artist? • 1887 Once Matisse finishes school and gets a job at a law office. Matisse thinks law as boring, but he passes the test to become a lawyer with a very high score. • Later, Matisse becomes very sick. He has to stay home for two years. During this time his mother buys him a set of paints. Soon after that, Matisse quits his job as a lawyer to become an artist.
