His Biography • Henri-Émile -Benoit Matisse was born on December 31, 1869 in the Picardy region of northern France • Studied law and worked as a law clerk • At the age of 21, he became seriously ill and when he recovered, he began to paint and discover his love for art • Quits on law and starts his life-long passion for art

  3. La Danse(The Dance) This art’s style is primitive art and uses a classic Fauvist colour palette. - It has intense warm colors against the cool blue- green background and the feeling of liberation from the dancing people recognized as a “key point of Matisse’s career and development of modern painting

  4. The Open Window1905 This is an example of a Fauvist style of painting that Matisse became famous for The Open Window is a theme that keeps recurring throughout his long career
