  3. OPeNDAP (Open-source Project for a Network Data Access Protocol) • What the Opendap can do? Opendap handles transport, translation and subsetting of data. Opendap allows us to access remote data over the internet : • using familiar data analysis and visualization packages like GrADS, Matlab, Ferret, IDL,... as if the data were on your computer • without worrying about data storage formats, translating them on-the-flight (including in ascii), if necessary • accessing only the data of interest (extracting geographical area, time series...)

  4. Current OPeNDAP Server SPEC • ADSS (APCC Data Service System) • CPU : P4 2.66 GHz • RAM : 512 MB • HDD : 500 GB • OS : Cent OS 4.3 i386 • Package : PGI fortran 6.1 NetCDF 3.6.1 NCARG 4.4.1 GrADS 1.9b4 APACHE 1.3.37 TOMCAT 5 Hyrax 1.10

  5. List of data on OPeNDAP server • TMI: TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission satellite) Microwave Imager • Contents: Sea Surface Temperature, Rain rate • AVISO: multimission gridded sea surface heights. This product is available in high (1/3°x1/3°) and low (1°x1°) resolution. • Contents: Sea Surface Height • QuikScat: The microwave scatterometer SeaWinds was launched on the QuikBird satellite in June 1999. • Contents: Sea Surface Wind • NCEP Reanalyses: The NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis 1 project from 1948 to the present. • Contents: Air temperature, Sea level pressure, Winds, and Geopotential heights • NOAA OLR: Daily, non-interpolated Outgoing Longwave Radiation (OLR) data from NCAR archives • Contents: Outgoing longwave radiation • APCC/CliPAS Hindcast: Climate prediction and hindcast datasets from participating models in APCC/CliPAS project, including Tier1 and Tier2 prediction systems • Contents: Global historical prediction data • AMY08 Data: Plan for data depository for Model Experiments, Data Assimilation, Observations • NASA High-resolution Model Simulation on TC Activity:Plan to archive a subset of model data from the NASA high-resolution model simulation project, to study the sensitivity of the genesis, tracks and intensity of TCs on SST and the MJO • WCRP/TFSP: Plan to host a subset of experiments from WCRP/Task Force for Seasonal Prediction

  6. Contribution to AMY08 APCC/CliPAS Hindcast: “Organize analysis of existing hindcast datasets through APCC/CliPAS project to (a) identify a range of suitable metrics relating to the AAM for application to the outputs, (b) assess the seasonal prediction skills and identify common weakness of the current dynamic prediction of Asian monsoon, (c) determine the predictability of Indian Ocean Dipole in collaboration with Indian Ocean Panel, and (d) study the role of the MJO in the onset of the (1997) El Niño with Pacific Ocean Panel.” WCRP/TFSP Dataset: “Propose new hindcast experiments on the impact of land surface (experiment) initialization and land-atmosphere interaction on the Asian summer monsoon rainfall in the continental regions in collaboration with WGSIP and TFSP. Coordinated coupled model AAM intraseasonal prediction experiments (panel from the COPES TFSP Interactive Atmosphere-Ocean-Land-Ice Prediction Experiment).” Data Depository for AMY08:(1) Observation data [representative/super stations? selected set of variables for model verification?](2) Data assimilation/data integration project/[Model experiments?] (OPeNDAP will be useful here) (3) Compilation of data catalog (Metadata)
