  2. What is my purpose? This is a question we have all asked at least once. Knowing what you love to do is not something you should take for granted. Some people already know what their life purpose is, while for others finding it might take a little or a lot of searching. If you are with the others, here are 7 tips to find your purpose in life. 1. Think about what brings you joy. Sit down and think about what makes you happy. Do you derive joy from animals, helping others, creating art, working with children? Whatever it is that brings you joy, take note! Don’t brush it off as a hobby to do in your free time or as an unimportant preference. Knowing what brings you joy might lead to finding where your purpose lies.

  3. 2. Explore your interest. Take action. Be it an internship, a volunteer opportunity, a job—just do it! That is the only way to find out if it is your passion. Even if you start doing something and you end up hating a month later, it will be worth your time. You will have learned that you do not like it, and that your time is better spent doing something else. Sometimes it's just as helpful to weave out what you don’t enjoy in order to find out what you do enjoy. “The path to our destination is not always a straight one. We go down the wrong road, we get lost, we turn back. Maybe it doesn’t matter which road we embark on. Maybe what matters is that we embark.” ―Barbara Hall 3. Talk with new people. Truth is, if you hang out with the same people over and over, you will not have as many opportunities to expand your knowledge. Talking to new people can open new doors for you. Ask questions, like what do they do for a living? What do they like and dislike about their job? Or what’s their favorite book and why? You might discover something you have never thought of before that piques your interest.

  4. 4. Immerse yourself in a positive environment. It will be difficult to motivate yourself to find your purpose when you are surrounded by people who bring you down. Surround yourself with people who will support and encourage you. And more importantly, extend this tip to the social media world as well. Be conscious of who you are following on your social media platforms and be sure they are not making you feel discouraged when searching for your purpose. You might brush it off as irrelevant, but you’ll be surprised to know how much influence social media has on your wellbeing. 5. Ask around. Sometimes our family and friends know us better than we know ourselves. Ask them questions: what am I good at? What am I passionate about? They may be able to see something in you that you were not aware of. For example, your family might point out that you are great with computers and are the go-to person when anyone needs IT help. Listen to what the people you love have to say about you, and you might discover your purpose in life.

  5. 6. Try something new. If you are having a hard time finding something you are interested in, try something you have never done before. Trying new things will expand your mind and help you discover new things about yourself. A few simple examples include taking a course in a new subject, listening to a podcast, or taking up a new hobby. You might find that you hate it, but there is a possibility that you might love it and it will bring you closer to finding your purpose in life. 7. Don't fear failure. Don't be scared to try something because you think you might fail. Failing is part of the process! As Thomas Edison said, “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” Failing will tell you what works and what does not work, and that brings you one step closer to achieving your goal. I hope you find these 7 tips to find your purpose in life helping in your journey!
