  2. Introductions(5 min)

  3. Legislative Update (10 min) Rep. Larry Seaquist

  4. Washington State Ferries Update (15 min) • Triangle Route • 3 Passenger Boats for West Seattle

  5. Goals for 2014 (20 Minutes) Goal 1) Pass a Transportation Package Builds a 3rd 144-car Olympic Class Boat and fully funds Operations and Maintenance for at least 8 years. Passed House in 2013 but not Senate. MCC went on “Listening Tour” and heard people are willing to pay gas taxes for improvements. Some Senators called for WSDOT reforms in package. Probably harder to pass in an election year.

  6. Goals for 2014 Goal 2) If no package, Secure Capital and Operational Funding Build a 3rd 144–car vessel and replace old vessels as needed to achieve reliability of the system. Washington State Ferries must build a new vessel every other year to retire existing ones when they reach 60 years of service. Develop master plan for a comprehensive package.

  7. Goals for 2014 Goal 3) Maintain Service Maintain the current level of service on all routes. 22 vessels serve about 23 million passengers and 11 million vehicles annually. Number of riders actually increased in 2013.

  8. Goals for 2014 Goal 4) Keep Fare Increases Reasonable Maintain reasonable fare levels. No greater than 2.5% per year baseline. Fare box recovery for ferry operations is 70%. Fare box recovery for Metro Transit is 15%, and only about 9% for Sound Transit. There is no fare box recovery for asphalt roadways. Cars and passengers pay 25 cents per ticket for capital projects.
